Any of you folks have experience with the Onkyo DX7555? Do you think it is worth $400? Would it be overkill given the rest of my gear? Right now I'm using my Toshiba dvd player to play CDs.

Cambridge, NAD, Marantz, are also some others you could look at in this price range. I have a Marantz and it sounds awesome.

I tried a $4,000 Esoteric SACD/cdp and a $4,000 Marantz SACD/cdp within the last calendar year, and have had similar nice players in the past (Sony, Sonic Frontiers, an Arcam CD33) . . .

... and ended up with two Onkyo 7555 cd players! They're that good, and that good a value.

I see that the more expensive players are a tad "better", but not $3500 "better." The Onkyo gets you 99.9% of the way.

    Nice looking machines, too.

I don't believe that the 7555 would be overkill for you, though. Just a really nice, solid piece of gear that you could grow into or just enjoy.

Sherardp, Thanks for the other suggestions.

Satire, This may be a stupid question but ... can you think of any reason why I might not want to run it with my HT Onk SR875 and RTi10s?

I'm not familiar with your gear, but can't see a conflict.

If you're casting around for other suggestions in that price range, the other unit that I've heard is the Rotel - a 1072, I believe it is. That's a splendid machine, too.
