Twenty bucks to the first person to guess the brands of the caps.

Hopefully you have Pay Pal.

THe "Daytons" could be Bennics (the OEM, at least I think that Bennic is the OEM of the PE caps).

The grey-ended ones are definitely Solens. Dunno the blue guy.

Starting with Mr. Zings 1st guess - Top 2 of 4, Bottom 2 of 4

McKoli even closer on top row , bottom is tricky

M Hardy!!! You da man! Very, very close but no cigar on the bottom row. 3 outta 4

    Heiney- no sonicaps anywhere

Very tricky with the end colors on the top row.

I'll stay logged in and check in while I assemble speaker pairs for listening. I was commanded to get my listen on with the RTi6 and RT55i..

Hint. The 3rd top has been named correctly. The bottom left is made by Bennic as are the Daytons also, it is just labeled differently.

That's the point of this post. Dig deep on the Madisound site under Bennic.

I was kinda hoping the youngins' would participate more. Maybe I should have made it $50, that's a half a tank of gas.....

    Welp,

    I guess I shoulda made it a cool $100

Top to bottom, L to R
Solen, Clarity, Jantzen, Jantzen The All Black Jantzen I have seen called by some sellers as "Black Beauties" black mombo or black snake moan or some smooth name like that.

Lower Row: All are MADE by Bennic

L to R:Sounder-Metalized Polyester Film (Off the RTi6 board)Dayton-Film and Foil, Dayton Metalized Polyproplyene, Bennic-Metalized Polyproplyene which tells me Bennic is a major manufactor of an assortment of caps of all types of material and they are damn good at it.

    Picture 044.jpg

Lesson: Do a lot of visual and manufacture research before buying "boutique" caps. There are only so many manufactors with 120 millon dollar machines to make. I doubt some hillbilly in Arkansas has one in his garage.

Well thanks for the fun Paul! I decided to go with Dayton/Bennic on my tube amp for coupling and bypass capacitors and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks Zing. Glad it worked out.

Geek thread? Yea, I'm an ex EE, been buying parts for decades for R&R. I was hoping to enlighten a few about the limited number manufactors actually producing parts, while trying to pay someone to get off their lazy **** and do some eazy research to prove it.

Cheers to the folks who did.

Yep Ben, I'm with you all the way. I bold lettered the fact that Bennic makes all the different types and brand names including Dayton and Sounder that are on the bottom row.

Geek? I don't do anything on blind faith, word of mouth or zero research, it's your money.

Some People are hopeless and rude. Guess I should talk about something like American Idol or Big Brother.....

Anyone got a link to a general tute on using caps in speakers? Like what values do what, what polypropylene means, vdc differences, that sort of schtuff.

Or is there a thread in the forum that's easy to find. I'm not having much love from the Search feature.

Just since this is a Cap thread, I was just on Klipsch's site (http://www.klipsch.com/palladium/Crossover.html) and its apparent they use Bennic's in thier Palladium line XO's.

You gotta love it, $50-100 worth of caps in a $15,000 pair of speakers.

It matches doesn't it? I would guess Polk is paying less than $5.00 - $10.00 for the ones in the LSi15's. (A speaker closer to $2,000 than $1,500.)

The ratio is about the same.
