Best 2-3 ch Amp for the buck for RTi10's?

Hey guys,

I may be looking into getting a pair of RTi10's instead of RTi8's. However, I know that they require a lot more power to drive them. What's a decent amp I could get for them (best bang for the buck)? I'm running an Onkyo SR705 right now and at 100W/ch, will it be enough if I run them in 2.1 or 3.1?

Thanks.

What it be sufficient though, to say run these guys on a 80hz crossover and let my sub take over for frequencies below? I feel like I'm wasting the speakers and might as well have RTi8's though.

Let me take a look at the Adcom 545II. Thanks as usual leroy :)

Emotiva XPA-2.... Massive amounts of power, great amp. $799. Or the XPA-5, not quite as much power, but will run all of your speakers if you do a 5.1 system. Or the Emotiva UPA-7, seven channels, great amp, only $599 I think...

    So, check out Emotiva.

Hm, before I dive into anything, I remember I still have an old Denon amplifier lying around that my Grandpa gave us in the early 90's. I think it's two channel. Let me take some pics and see if any of you guys can figure out what it is.

Any reason why I shouldn't be using an old amp?

OK, so no pics yet, but I got the model numbers from my dad. Also have a pre-amp as well.

    Pre-amp is Denon PRA1200
    Amp is Denon POA2200

I read somewhere that the POA2200 is 200W per channel? Will the Pre-amp do me any good? Thanks!

You don't need the pre amp. You can use the Onkyo as your pre amp.

Agreed! The Denon is going to be too old compared to the Onkyo. It will not have any of the new stuff such as DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1. Of course, if you're only going stereo, with no video, it might do a fine job ...

FYI: Recent eBay auction for the pre, $150.

Thanks guys. Maybe we'll sell that pre-amp.

Is the 200wpc from the POA-2200 going to be a good amount for the RTi10's?

should I just plug the csi5 directly into the onkyo when I get it? Or should I get a single channel amp?

Try it with the Onkyo first. You may be happy with the sound.

    Definitely will do.

What cables would you guys recommend using to connect the Onkyo SR705 to the POA-2200?

You can go with MonoPrice to start with. After that, you could look at Blue Jeans, Signal, or our very own, hand made, BW Audio.

Wow such a price difference between Monoprice cables and others. No doubt the others are really good. How do the Monoprice cables compare at 1/10 the cost?

Monoprice is your basic decent cable. If money is tight and you are not sure what to do, they are probably equal to the Monster Cable gear you will find at Best Buy and you will have no complaints. Actually, the others are cheap for "high end" gear. If you are afraid of upgraditis, you should certainly get one of the others mentioned.

I'm surprised John K hasn't jumped in yet.Personally, for IC's, I'd go with Ben's then Signal then Blue Jeans. I've owned all three and that is the order in which I would get them.

IMO I would take the 8's if you're using sub. Amp you already have although I'm sure you're AVR would be fine too (but no harm done in trying the external amp).

Unfortunately the place I ordered the RTi8's at ran out of stock and are upgrading me to the RTi10's for free. I had bought the sub thinking that I would need it since I was planning on having 8's. The sub should still outperform the RTi10's in terms of bass though so that should be ok.

The added amp should improve hi's and mid's as well (in addition to bass) for the RTi10's right?
