What part of the 805 does it get the hottest? If I were to get a fan, where do I need to put it? I know it gets hot all over, but does it get hottest towards the back half or the front half? What's the average running temp after about 3-4 hrs of use?

Depends, are you using it as a pre/pro? If you are running the crap out of the internal amp, that usually gets the hottest. Next in line would be the processor and internal scaler. I couldn't tell you where the exact location would be, my guess would be where the cooling fins are located. Usually in the rear of the unit.
I wouldn't worry to much about adding fans, I'd worry more about breathing room. Do not enclose it in a cabinet. -

I'll be using it as a single unit with no external amps. I saw some pictures of the inside and the big heatsinks are in the middle of the unit. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to enclose it in a cabinet and it only has 2" on side and top. That is why I am looking into getting a fan (Antec Veris A/V cooler). The cooler is about half the size of the 805, so I wanted to know if I should keep the fans toward the back of the unit or towards the front of the unit. -
As long as you place it over the vent slots, it shouldn't realy matter. All you are trying to do is draw hot air from the component.

From experience, I find that the hottest part of the SR805 is the right rear section when looking from the front. That is the area where the video processor is located. That is where most people suggest to locate a fan if you want to add one. The actual heatsinks for the the amp section do not seem to get overly warm. In addition, there are built in fans that draw air in from the front corners to cool the main heatsinks. These fans are temp controlled, so they only come on when you are really pushing the amp.

Thanks for that information. I noticed that there are 2 temp sensors in the 805. Is one located in the front and the other in the rear? It seems that one of the temp sensors is always about 3-4 degrees hotter than the other one. Is the hotter one in the rear near the video processor maybe? -

I've noticed the same spots you described from playing with this in stores. The right rear was definitely the hottest part to the touch.

805 has two fans built in to it already.
