Finally giving away my oldies. Four Monitor 4 Series 2’s and an AB800 center speaker that was mounted in the Pioneer TV to the Bro In-Law. He married a divorcee years ago with 2 kids and has done nothing but put them first in providing for his wife and the kids. Turned the kids from hellions-1 college grad. Bought his first new Jeep 2 years ago, bought HIS 1st new TV an 60”SXRD last year. Never has had a “complete” stereo.

So, since I am going either newish or new Polk’s, I put this together together for him from the closets. Won’t explain now how I aquire all this stuff but, it’s not stolen. 4)-1991 Monitor 4 Series speakers, 1-JBL 10” Venue 150w sub, 1-Panasonic SA-HT400 HT/Box receiver (The receiver is decent, a real sized rcvr, chunking the speakers) 1-Sony RDR-VX555 dvd/vcr combo - 1080i upconversion on both formats. Thought I needed to put surround sound in every bedroom. Re-thought that. Living and Master only now.

The Polk SL1500 tweeter is a ¾” version of the SL2500. The Dayton caps tamed this little guy. No more fizzle or even the occasional tinny sound, unless it’s from the Pioneer VSX816 receiver, at high volumes, I’m using for speaker auditions. They are actually nice and mellow. Tamed the minor boom in the box by using ¼ “ thick open cell foam on both sides and a small layer of seat cushion poly fill for the back. The stuff is 10x more dense than polyfill (also called “batting” at JoAnne Fabrics, both are available there) so it took some trial and error to get the bass right. Started with the 1.5” thick piece shown in the pic and pulled several layers to about 1/3” thick finally. Also cut it shorter not to cover the top of the box or port too.

Anyway, He deserves it and maybe I’ll get some credits with the man upstairs…. My wife and I are not wealthy so this is the only way I can advance him to the HT world.

That is very nice of you to help your brother-in-law out that way. No better gift, than the gift of HIFI. :D
