Movie Theaters

Has anyone been to the movie theaters lately. Today was the first time in about a year and I wasn't too impressed with the movies picture and sound. I immediately start comparing my system and hd projector to that of the movie theaters. Has anyone elso done this and what your thoughts?
You would think with all that technology they would be shooting a hd picture and sound. It looked like I was watching a vcr tape. and I spent $60.

LOL! I went to my 1st movie in 3 years today, and remembered WHY I hate cinemas. Friggin' product commercials, t.v. commercials, etc. And then I could actually hear the projector, which wasn't centered on the screen. It was friggin pathetic.
I figured everything would be digital by now!?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

I went and saw Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist. Not much in the way crashes and explosions. Sound wise...I don't think anything can beat your own HT when you have the proper equipment;) My next big expense will definitely be a HD Projector if I can only convince my wife why "WE" need it:D The other issue is while doing some research on them I found they are coming out with LED projectors that won't have the lamp life issues that plagues current projectors. The other issue is what the price tag will be:eek:Fronts: RTI10's

Normally I am disappointed in the sound-seems like they turn the subs off. Or the general volume is not loud enough. I realize that they have to cater to the masses and not everybody wants knock your socks off sound, but damn.
Only saving grace so far was Dark Knight-I revalidated what I thought Movie Theaters should sound like. I'm not expecting that for every movie I go to, but its nice to know the capability is there.
One time they forgot to dim the damn overhead lights-how fricken annoying that was...
Can't say I've ever heard the projector--I usually sit in the front rows, and no, not the very front , the ones right there as soon as you walk in. I suppose you probably could if you sit closer to it.
I don't like to go when its crowded, except for the rare comedy like Austin Powers-Goldmember-Holy crap that was a blast in the theater-like watching a sitcom with a laugh track-the whole place was in stitches--anyway-I go a week or two after release, and usually in the middle of the week. My wife and I may be the only ones in there and perhaps another couple or two, but no elbow digging or darn giggling teenage girls.____________________

I've had my projector for 2 years and so far I put 300 hours on it. 2700 hours left. My next purchased is going to be a new 1080p projector. -

I move into my house in less than 2 weeks. The basement is finished off and will be strictly for my home theater. My sound system has been finished for a few years, so the big purchase will be a 50" 1080p HD Plasma and PS3 (for Blu Ray capability).
I saw 3 movies in the theater this year. Next year, it will most likely be less than that! The crowds, uncomfortable seats, punk **** kids and especially the high prices are enough to keep me at home. For what it costs to see it in the theater, you can buy the Blu Ray and lots of snacks, then enjoy it at home!No excuses! -
We have rave here and they have the new digital projectors and all in all a good pic and sound.

I might go to the movies once or twice a year.
I think once you get over 25, that would be the current norm."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
If you've been to an actual Digital Theater the sound and picture are awesome. If you end up watching a movie with few people there it's still an awesome experience.......
What ruins a movie for me more than anything else is other people making noises/cells ringing, etc......comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

I really like my own home theater and when I was in GA the theaters were rather subpar and I would typically wait for a film to hit DVD or Blu-ray to watch them. One of the theaters would run their lamps at half brightness to try to extend the life which caused a lot of flicker and poor image quality. On a few occasions the L and R channels were reversed!
However, since moving back out to the west coast I have been very pleased with the image quality and sound. The theater closest to me is still using 35mm projectors but they are plenty bright and there is little gate noise so the image is nice and stable, the sound is also powerful and accurate. The newer theater a bit further away is using Christie DLPs and offers rock solid image quality and fantastic sound. For the ultimate movie going experience I will go up to San Francisco and watch a movie on IMAX which really blows my socks off. Overall, movie going experiences really depend on how well the theaters are maintained and of course the gear they are running.
There is a run down theater nearby which sounds similar to bad experiences you guys have had. Fortunately, there are a lot of high end theaters in this area so the incentive to see films in the cinema is worth it in this area.I just got back from the theater and I was thinking the exact same thing while I was watching the movie....WHERE IS THE HD PICTURE!!!
35mm has better image quality than HD as does the 2k and 4k DLP projectors they use in theaters. The potential for better image quality in cinemas is there, it boils down to shoddy projection systems in your local theaters and them not maintaining them.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

Maybe this should be a "show us your theater that you think is better than a commercial theater..."
I can start it!
Commercial theaters are a waste now. They just waste my time, waiting for new movies to come out.
The wife and I are watching IronMan for the first time this weekend, on Blu!"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell -

And then you wait months longer for them to come out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Honestly, if those who are underwhelmed by the theaters in their area, do some research and see if there are some new theaters in your anywhere around. There are many absolutely fantastic ones in this area that have once again sparked that "magic" of going to the cinema. :cool:// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

I hardly ever go to the theaters, unless it's something so interesting I just can't wait to come out. It's either has to be a "special" day or just taking the kids to an afternoon matinee to watch a family/kids movie.
Ever since I got into Blu-Ray and HD DVD (and of course my LSi's):p nothing else comes close.
