I was very proud of our countries response after seeing interviews in which people from the battered gulf coast expressed their appreciation for the help they recieved from some of our finest.:)

My best friends are Canadian, live next door. The healthcare stories you hear are true. My neighbors own mother had to wait 3 years for a hip replacement,so they came here. Taxes are so high,a case of beer is 40-50 bucks,a bottle of rum,35 bucks,so alot make their own booze. Crime is no different than here,in the metro area's it's worse than out in the sticks. The majority of Canadians live within 150 miles of our border. They do have a better sense of environment, preservation. They won't build any refinery's for oil, they ship the oil here,we ship them gas back. Make sense ? My neighbor works for a huge tool company,he has lived in Canada, europe, brazil, and settled on here. His job enables him to live just about anywhere. So of coarse I had to ask....why here ? He said becouse we have the best HC, the most options for consumer goods and services, and we are still fairly cheap. Needless to say,he can't understand,as I do too,why in the world we would want to change all that.

While some of the health care stories may be true, I personally think they are over exaggerated. My 2 Aunts both had hip replacements, Mother-in-law had a knee replaced, 4 Uncles that had triple and quadruple bi-passes, a family friend had open heart surgery and so on and so on. These folks had to wait a little, but not years. Any life threatening surgery is addressed quickly and it was free. As for the crime, sorry Tony I have to disagree. While your population is vastly larger than ours, I don't think the stats show that. For example, in 2007 the stats for murder show:

    USA
    Population - 301,621,157
    Murders - 16,929

    Canada
    Population - 33,122,189
    Murders - 594
That's just one example. I think each country has its problems and good points as well. I'll stay exactly where I am.

I'd go on but I need to check my batch of moonshine. :D

It also writes descriptions about many border towns/cities.Stunning photography!Canada established the first Hardrock Cafe in North America and I beiieve is the second one in the world (after England)

Canadians are just like people in the US, but they own more boats! That's from a tongue-in-cheek summary of a demographic profile we did for a company wanting to start marketing in Canada.

As I manage Canadian marketing services for my company, and have many companies, associates, and friends in Canada, I would be the last one to throw any stones! Both countries have good points and bad points. I've considered assignments that would have moved me to Canada for an extended period of time.

I feel this map explains the world very well from my perspective despite its simplicity. I think it also explains why many of you Moose Heads are pouting after a little teasing . . .

Canadians love hockey and beer, and that makes them A-OK with me.

I was TDY with some Canadian Army fellas in Italy. There were a blast to be around, good natured and funnier than hell. I got a kick out of the motherload of food they brought with them. Americans were eating crap out of vending machines, and these 2 guys would cook a full course breakfast every morning before class; eggs, bacon, pancakes, orange juice, hominy, the works. They were not playing around.

I've met and worked with quite a few Canadians throughout my military career; really great people, down to earth and very unpretentious.

Mike, I love living in the uninhabited zone. Then again, the rest of the people probably feel that way about me as well. Turn up the music. :D
