Model 11 RTA Question

Hello Polk Fans-
I have a set of Model 11 RTA speakers from the 80s. I'm in the process of setting up a surround system for movies, etc, and I have the 11's as the front speakers. They sound great, its a quite big sound, really adds to the viewing experience. Dialog is very clear and crisp, and guitars come through loud and clear in the Stones videos.
Questions:
1. Seems to me the speakers are not as bright as they used to be. They used to be too bright. Now I notice that the sound of breaking glass, for example, sounds a little flat.
2. What is a good choice for a center speaker? Or should I just go without? I don't want to add anything that will degrade the intelligibility of the voices. My hearing is not as good as it used to be.
Here's the drivers:
2 x MW6600 Mid-L.F.
1 x HF1000 H.F.
1 x D-1200-A Passive
Thanks for the help!
Scott

Welcome to Club Polk. You may have either blown tweeters, or a bad fuse/poly switch. For a center you might want to try a monitor 5 on its side.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. I just took the poly switches out of my RTA 11T's and they do sound a little crisper. I would recommend a CSi5 or CSia6 for a center if you are looking for a center.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
If I'm not mistaken the Monitor 11RTA were made in '82 only. I just sold mine with the pending purchase of SDA's. (fell through)
Twenty Six year old caps in the crossovers are tired and should at least be checked and most likely replaced. Few if any of the old caps will survive 20 years without deteriorating your SQ.
My RTA 11s had the fuse protection and not polyswitches in them.
Killer speakers btw. I miss mine and wish I'd never let them go.

Thanks for all the advice.
My tweeters work, they just don't sound very bright. Maybe I will have a look at the crossover. I guess its behind the round disk with the speaker terminals?
