Sub- Cylinder or Box?

I'm just starting my research into a new (more ideal) sub from my HT.
I'm not looking for brands or model suggestions here yet, to keep this thread simple lets say I chose SVS.

It seems that hey have a box and a cylinder version of what is otherwise the same sub (same driver, amp, etc)
I'd be looking at the new versions due out in Nov 08.
Here is the cylinder version: http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pc12_plus.cfm
And here is the box version: http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-newpb12plus.cfm

What is the advantage of one over the other? The only thing I can see so far, other than the asthetics of a cylinder vs. box, is that the cylinder probably has a smaller footprint.
Any other arguments on box vs. cylinder?

mmadden28, sorry for the off topic question but how does that Klipsch RW-10D perform in HT duties?

    Thanks

You've got it...looks, footprint and weight (moving the boxes around is not a pleasure) are 98% of the difference. The boxes measure a little better, but it's doubtful it's audible. It has more to do with having the ports aligned with the driver and microphone. There's supposed to be a 1 - 1.5db advantage below 20hz with the PB13 vs PC13 and looking at the FR graphs published, it looks true for the new Plus line as well.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

You can put more Snowbabies on a box sub, but you gotta remember to velcro 'em down if you're gonna watch movies.:p;):D Just ask my wife.

My bud Victor has the round SVS and I have a box SVS. Aside from the smaller footprint/easier to move already mentioned, I never felt one was better than the other performance wise.

Thanks for the feedback guys-Hmmm, I suppose I'd have to ask my wife which she'd like better if I chose SVS. The only place I can really put it is near the left main. I'm a bit limited there as that is already pretty close to the left wall which has windows as well as a fireplace. I was thinking that the cylinder would be easier to place with the smaller footprint where the box would be very limited and would look odd on an angle.

Can't put it near the right main as there are steps there. The only other choice would be behind and left of the couch, which I might do if it works out SQ wise, but I'd have to remove the kids toys first ;).

That's awesome! :D I knew I could count on some good WAF advice from this forum. ;):p

Well, so far I like it. Its a major improvement over the Sony HTiB box sub I had (120watt  ) While watching Beowulf I was wow'ed. However I don't think I have it fully tuned yet or maybe its in a bad spot-as sometimes it just sounds too much, like single note/freq. stuff going on, esp while watching TV. Perhpas its just odd sound engineering as I don't have the same issue with movies only TV.
Its an open floor plan typ room, Cathedral ceilings with open steps up to an open upstairs hall, as well as open to the kitchen.
I know that more can be had-I haven't felt much visceral impact otherwise, such as with U-571--I haven't been truly depth charged yet.

Seconded. Mine sounds weird on TV sometimes, but honestly, when i listen to TV without the sub, and the rest of the setup still running, i STILL have that problem, so i really don't think it's got much to do with the sub. The speakers i run in the rest of my setup will dig down into the 20s if i don't run a filter, so i think it's just a bad spot in tv audio.

Love the sub, though. Doubt i'll be upgrading that anytime soon, unless it's to get a second one.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.
