Monitor 7 Obsession

Who knows how these things happen? For some reason I MUST have a pair of monitor 7's....Maybe it's the passive radiator which defies my sense of logic, like the guy who falls in love with a woman he can't stand...anyway if i'm going to get a pair (appropriate comparison to a woman{just kidding}) then I want the Best sounding model, and for that reference I come to the Polk experts here.I'll mention that there's a guy on ebay selling a capacitor upgrade which is suppose to unleash the magic of the 7 by improving the mid and treble response, but this upgrade only works on 7,7ABC,not seriesII.His item # on ebay is 260290370168,if it's expired his seller name is ray17760.His Feedback is 100% but there's no mention of success rate from any of the buyers. So,if anyone has any experience with this upgrade please respond too. Thanks!

All you need to upgrade your model is a schematic, which is posted here on the forum. Or you can get the values needed off of one of your crossover boards. After that, you can buy the proper caps and resistor(s) from a host of resellers, which offer much better parts than he is selling, and do it yourself.

Oh great!Still the question = which model 7 to you think sounds the best? And regarding Political Correctness and picking up a **** from the clean end,it's also important to know that one can only polish a **** to a semi-gloss shine, anymore then that and one automatically becomes a member of the Semihole Tribe...they're the half assed indians!!

I am sure the people around here can and will help you if you are alittle more detailed in what your looking for.
I know there are Monitor 7's for sale often on places like e-bay. In my opinion you should find a pair in great shape and upgrade the caps and resistors yourself with the information you can easily find here by doing a search. If you have questions always feel free to ask. If you are to use the Monitor 7's as your primary speakers use top quality caps and resistors as well as purchasing RDO-194's thru Polk.
Good luck and welcome to Club Polk

Monitor 7B with Peerless tweeter sounds best to me.. I have not tried a Monitor 7 with the RDO-194's. that may sound pretty awesome too.. if anyone has upgraded the SL2000 tweeters in theirs what were the results?

The problem with searching for "monitor 7" is that "7" is too short and will be excluded from your search. I've been there many a time before.

From what i have read, (i don't have a pair of 7s) it seems that in original, unaltered form, the 7B with the peerless tweeter seems to be the favorite.

But if you're just going to mess with them and do the RDO194 upgrade, update the crossovers, etc, then i'd just get a set with solid drivers, and the nicest cabinet you can find. :)
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.
