I found a pair of SDA 1s Locally for $500. Look to be in great shape. NO cable.
Is this a good price for the 1's?
Thanks,
Harry

Which 1's? In any case, it seems a bit high, specially if the interconnect is not included. Of course being local is a plus.

Pics of them. Sorry, I'm not used to the format on some of the buttons.

Those are very early 1's and $500 is too much. Even if they are minty. Later 1's like the "C" are much better sounding since they were among the last generation's. The "C" had better x-over's, drivers, eliminated the dimensional tweeter, better cabinets, etc.

Those 1's would be nice for $200-250 (if minty) but then you'd just want to upgrade to a newer generation eventually. The later generations are really much better sounding.

    YMMV

The older with the SDA tweeter. I would not pay half of what they are asking.

    HB27,

The $200 to $250 estimate is about right. I bought mine for $200 in mint condition with the interconnect. Then upgraded to RDO 194's. They sound very good but not great. The dimensional tweeter takes a little getting used to.

It's very easy to disable the dimensional tweeter. I have helped a few with the mod. To trial run the mod just pull the fuses on the dim tweeters, or disconnect one of the leads. The highs will be slightly attenuated, but the mod just consist of reducing the resistance of the stereo tweeter.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    Thanks Ben,

I'll try pulling the fuses later today and maybe turning up the treble a little to compensate. The holographic nature of the highs had me considering selling them, so hopefully this will help.

This guy also has a pair of the newer ones with different tweeter placement. he's not sure of the model so I'm going to wait for his pics this afternoon. He has a pair of cables made for them. they are Pin Blades.
I'll figure out the model on them and get more "pro" advice before spending the bucks.
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted on progress. I'm REALLY wanting some nice SDA's.

    Hey Harry,
Your doing the correct thing by waiting for the "right" SDA's to come along and I am sure it will pay off.
I could not tell from the picture of the back of the SDA's in the picture, do you know if these are SDA's with that different cable, not blade/blade and not pin/blade but some other contraption? If so you may really really want to pass on them.

I agree with you and not looking to dispute that they are over priced BUT, Is there a pair of speakers, other than other SDA's that sound as good as these for $500.? I myself do not know but am curious what the thoughts are. Hell I pair $500 as I remember for a pair of mint condition SRSII's.
Carlos, if you read this thanks again I am keeping them in great condition.

I bought some SDA1s off ebay that were close by, so I was able to pick them up, this was before I knew anything about all the different versions made. I gave $267.00 IIRC they have real walnut veneer but they also have SL2000 tweeters which I don't too much care for. Those look like they may have Peerless tweeters, which I like a lot, on my Mon10s. They're still Polk SDAs, and can be modded and upgraded(not by me however:() If you can get em cheap,do it ! I just bought some SRSIIs, but still plan to keep the 1As and get the XOs re-done and drop down to one RDO tweeter per side.Good luck ! gdb:)

For $500, you'll be hard pressed to find a comparable full range tower.

They are sl1000 tweets, as bad or worse than the sl2000. Not peerless tweets

I'm still waiting for pics of the other ones. "Studio" models in black. They're supposed to have different tweeter placement.
I DON'T have to have any speakers just now. I just want the GOOD SDA's.
I've got a pair of AR9, AR9LS, and AR90s, I just went through all of them and they sound fantastic. I've also got a pair of Klipsch Chorus II, '78 Cornwalls, Altec Valencias, Jensen 60's era Auditoriums, and a half dozen pairs of bookshelfs laying around IN THE APARTMENT right now to listen to. I'm a freak for good speakers and the SDA are on my WANT NOW list. I'll find the right ones sooner or later. Hopefully the "studios" will fill the bill.
I'll let you know more as I do.
    Thanks to all again,
    Harry

They're probably 1C's or 2B's, you can't go wrong with either one as long as the price is right. Did he say how many woofers/tweets?

Probably 1B's or 1C's. . Both are very good SDA'a, so if they are in good condition and the price is right, go get them (remember you will probably want to spend $200 to upgrade tweeters to the RDO's)

I've got to figure caps also. Sonicaps aren't cheap. I hope they're the C. I'm not a big fan of black but It's a possible keeper speaker. I can re-finish/veneer if needed.
