I picked up a SDA compact left channel speaker today and I've never seen one before. What was it's intended use?

It didn't come as a pair?

Just one? Well for SDA's you really need two.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

NOPE, just got the left. I may get the right still. I have no idea of if or when.

Interesting, SDA Compact, I guess sorta like the CRS but not the CRS? Never seen one with two tweeters, maybe you can track down a right?
-
Could that be used as a center speaker?

It's going to very hard to find someone just selling the right side. -
I've never owned CRS's,, but I'm sure they came in pairs,,IIRC someone was using one,,possibly two for the center channel in a HT setup,,can you get the other(right) one?JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
If you can hunt the right down you have a nice pair of speaks.
-
There's a chance I may get the right. I picked this one up from a friend who's son left it at his house about a week ago. My friend said he had the pair and was actually surprised he would sell the one.
I've already mentioned I'd buy the other one. All he has to do is call.
Thanks,

Were these used as stand alone speakers, a Piggyback system for larger speakers, or what?

Nope. They are the little SDA's that could. They were typically used on stands. It is a full range left, and right SDA speaker system:)

It is a CRS
SDA Compact is the same as CRS (Compact Reference System) Early versions had 2 tweets (1) functioned as a dimensional tweet like the early SDA's
the CRS+ eliminated the additional tweeter since it wasn't needed any longer. A single CRS will be difficult to come by unless the original owner has the right channel. The L and R channels are not interchangeable if you want the SDA properties to work properly. As a single unit, it's kinda useless."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Yea, I'm just not use to seeing them with two tweeters. I don't think my ears could take two of those tweeters on a small speaker like that,I might have to put capacitors on them. -
They are the SDA CRS. IIRC, CRS stands for Compact Reference System.
I think some had two tweeters but later models only one. Mainly because the Polk engineers found that the SDA effect was negligent on high frequency drivers and opted for a cheaper, less complex crossover. I could be mistaken though. That happened on all SDA models in the SDA range though.
They usually have a cable associated with them and therefore to realize the full potential of the speakers, you need the pair and the cable. They can be used without the cable as just stereo speakers and you can use a single one by itself on a mono channel. However, it is best to use them as a pair with the cable.
They are the "bookshelf SDA" and intended to be a standalone stereo pair. They are not attached to any other system and are stereo speakers in their own right. Very capable speakers for the size and money.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Anyone got a spare right channel? LOL!!! I guess odds are slim to none.

If you get the other from your friend you have a nice set of speakers.....

I just got off the phone with his son. He picked up the single left channel at a yard sale and the other speaker is not available. I guess it's a parts piece now unless I get lucky and find the right channel by chance. Thanks to all for the info.
Harry -
Someone can use it as a center. All they need to do is tie the dimensional woofer's ground to the stereo woofer's ground to have a perfect vintage center. It would work the same as a compact monitor 10;)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. I've been thinking about this single. Without the RT channel speaker it's not much use to me. I run strictly 2 channel and someone here may want it for a center or parts. I hate to part it so I'll put it on the FS side. I have no idea what it's value is so I'm leaning on a trade for a decent amp or preamp. Sound like it's fair to all? I'm not sure so I'll "ask the pros"
Thanks,
Harry
So I take it you can't get the other speaker from your friend?"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. No, It's not available.
Not that it matters but what happened to it? I suppose it's best to try and sell it whole and then if it doesn't sell part it out. Hate to see SDA's of any kind parted out. But if the other one is not avail..............

HB27 Why don't you hold on to it and try to find a set for sale on ebay or craiglist and you'll already have the center .

I won't part it out except as a last resort. SDAs are something I've been wanting for a long time. Location has always stopped me from getting them. I had a pair bought when I sold my Monitor11 RTAs but when I went to pick them up the guy was tearing up and I didn't have the heart to take them. He was a happy camper I didn't buy them but his wife wasn't. She was the motivation behind his sale.

Me.. Me..!!!! Center yes, I need a center..!!!! Right now I'm using a Monitor 5jr.
Harry, do you need a preamp? I have 3 extra:o. Trade..?Thanks, Jeff... -
Me thinks me and Jeff have a trade goin' on. More info as we both have time to finalize it out.
Harry -
Trade options still open. Amp preferred. Jeff doesn't have anything I want for my system. I picked up an Adcom GTP400 from a buddy of mine in Michigan and it should be here tuesday.
I still need a decent amp for my "C" system and get away from the little SET in the bedroom. Love the sound but hot glass in the bedroom is not my first choice.
Thanks,

Ok, I put this up on the For Sale section but I'm having second thoughts about it.
I'm in an apartment for now and these are a great size for my needs. This is also a way for me to get started on the SDA road.
I build speakers and was wondering if there are any parts available to build the matching right channel? Cable options? Etc?
I've got a good fast cheap cabinet maker and I'm an electronics tech. Shouldn't be too intricate of a project should it? I haven't even opened this up yet to take a look.
Any suggestions?
