Damn, Shack beat me to Asia. I had them all lined up for today's entry. Good (accurate!) bio info too. You must be an old prog rocker.

I've look through the A's on CD and vinyl and can't come up with anything else worth mentioning that hasn't been mentioned already. How the hell did this Tori Amos CD wind up in here? Jesus, that can't be mine. I'm blaming my wife for that one.

    Paul,

Adams did the soundtrack to the movie "Spirit" (animated....about a horse) Not to bad of songs really. I do not know if he wrote them or not.

So he is still around, I just do not know if he has done any new albums.

That the two of you I hear hummin' "Dancing Queen" in harmony? Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures.
Sorry, if you felt a bit stomped in my earlier reply avelanche... just having fun
Now where's that "Air Supply" album I was listening to last week... CRAP just wasted my 2nd LOTW artist of the day... Oh well, the sun come up tomorrow... ooo... I'll need to save that one for the "Original Broadway Scores " thread...

LOL, not feeling stomped at all tour2ma. I do in a wierd way find ABBA pleasing. And I think Brett put it perfect, there are a few newer groups out there (A-Teens) that have brought there work back to life.

Disco may be dead, but ABBA did put one of the biggest marks on that era....besides the BeeGee's.

Not much has been said about Aerosmith. Considering how long they have been around I would have expected them to be out in front for the A list.

While I have never been a big fan of this band, I do like a lot of their music. I also enjoy their sense of humor. Who can forget their appearance on Saturday Night Live when they showed up on Wayne's World? Another memorable moment was the video in which they performed Walk This Way with a rap group (don't remember the groups name) Great stuff.

Food for thought, but here is the question of the day:

Could this band end up being America's version of the Rolling Stones?

    Good question, Paul....
Tyler and Mick.. big lips... hot daughters :) ... wrinkles... I see the parallel...
Seriously hard to think of an American counterpart other than Aerosmith that comes close to matching the Stones longevity at, or near, the top...

The "rap" group was Run DMC and it was that song/video that jump started Aerosmiths's resurgence. "Toys In The Attic" (original "Walk This Way" album) is better than anything they've done since.

Here’s my last two “A’s”… kinda disparate, but WTH..

    “Joan Armatrading”
    Joan Armatrading – vinyl (A&M 1976 – A&M SP 4588)
Ex-Bro-in-law put me onto this. This is Tracey Chapman 20 years before Tracey recorded, but with a richer, even more soulful voice than Tracey’s. Three really nice cuts here, “Down to Zero”, “Help Yourself” and, best of all, “Love and Affection”. Rest aren’t bad either. May not quite be rock, but really good stuff from a virtual unknown. If you like Tracey, especially her 1st album, I think you’d like Joan.

    And… sorry 'bout this...
    “Adam Ant”
Friend or Foe – vinyl (Epic 1982 – FE 38370)
OK, I got hooked by ”Goodie Two Shoes” when it was getting airplay… That’s the only song off of it I even vaguely remember, thank God, although it appears he covered “Hello, I Love You” in track 6… arrrgh  … gives me shivers just to imagine that. Maybe someday when I am really drunk…
No recommendation here, in case you couldn’t tell, except apparently I made the judgment along time ago that I should alphabetize this by “Adam” and not “Ant”, which puts it first, on my vinyl’s left flank and keep’s what comes next, Aerosmith’s “Toys in the Attic”, outta harms way… might work for you too…

    I’m out until Saturday… keep it rolling…

PS - I think Liv Tyler is "elfin'" beautiful...

    The Alan Parsons Project

    Title - Sterotomy
    Arista Records - 1984
    Cat #ARCD-8384

Although this may be one of the lesser known albums by Alan Parson's, it truly shines with regards to attention to detail. The engineering of this disc is, like all previous releases from Alan Parsons, a great example of how to put a disc together.

The Project excels on the instrumentals ""Where's the Walrus" (track 6) and "Chinese Whispers" (track 8) both of which are extremely easy to listen to. The title track is also a winner in my book. The downside to this disc are ""Limelight" and "Light of the World," neither of which seems to fit in with the rest of the cuts. Way to slow and melancholy(sp?).

Thanks Frank. Your post brings back memories of being struck dumb the first time I heard the production values in "I Robot", which I have on open reel.
    Add "Sterotomy" to the list.

Here is the Audience info you asked about.

I like the "Lunch" album more than the "House on the Hill." While you can tell that both of these are the same group, the Lunch one has more upbeat and cheerful songs. The main players are the same but Lunch adds three more guys. They play a tenor sax, piano, and trumpet/trombone. I don't have either of these on records, just cds. The Lunch cd says this was recorded November 1971 and January 1972. According to the AMG all music guide, Lunch was the last of four albums by Audience, and was released in 1972. If you have not seen the AMG website you should check it out. Tons of information there. It is located at www.allmusic.com

    Gents,
Just filled in a few A’s courtesy of Amazon.com

    Joe,
Just ordered "Lunch" import, new, for $12 :D and while I was there got “Audience” new for $17, also an import. :)

    Frank,
Used "I Robot" for $9... No can find "Stereotomy"... any leads for me? I'll try e-bay...
(should have thought of this earlier, might've saved some bucks on the pricier buys... next time...)

    Woody,
    ARC’s 1st for $5… was a comp copy to a radio station…

    F1,
Duane’s “Anthology”, new one is sitting in my cart for next visit - ~$22.

    Tour,
AWB’s hits used for $8… s**t… posting to yourself is worse than talking to yourself…

Thanks all for the input... yes, you too, tour...

    Frank,
Thanks... will give that a try... if I can't turn one up, I may, with your permission, mail you a blank C-90.
Side Note: You should see the debate at Amazon on APP's "Anthology" dbl CD... I think one guy nailed it when he posted, "you can not pick and chose tracks from concept albums to produce a listenable APP collection...", or words close to that. You agree?

    All,
Went through my open reel stock late last night looking to see if I had "I Robot" there... did not, but I found another "A". :p

Armageddon - self titled (info N/A)
Will need to look them up on AMG, but likely was a pre-'74 release.
Very dim recollection that this was a pretty good listen.
Last time I tried the old, circa 1975 JVC RD-1552 (w/ JVC ANRS NR-1020 up front) it was limping a little. Oh well, I needed another project...
When I give Armageddon a listen, I'll file a report...

I am really surprised about a great band that was missed. I was searching for a "c" band and came upon

Alice in Chains. There was not one album that did not ROCK! Jerry Cantrell wa a madman on guitars, and Layne Stayley had that hard edge to his voice, so when a new song came out you immediately knew who was singing it.

As for albums, again all of them were great IMHO. The one that stands out to me really is the Unplugged CD (July 1996, Sony). Brought a different perspective to their music. And they did not butcher their songs in the process.

    Ave,
AiC was way good... nice fill in.

Meanwhile in a parallel unvierse, I'm scraping through every corner for more "D's" and find:

    Arc Angels
    Arc Angels - CD (1992 Geffen - DGCD-24465)
Another cellophane wrapped mystery. Remember buying it off of a favorable review (probably Stereo Review). Will give a listen and report back later...
With Armagedon, that's two reviews I now owe...
Plus I gotta start cataloging this "stuff" as promised...

Edit: - Finshed the Arc Angels listen.... not bad at all. Of the 60 minutes on this CD, about 2/3's made me stop and pay attention and half of that stopped me cold. Some Blusey stuff here, with very nice guitar work, a little country-rock there... not bad at all. Other third was just background, with only one track borderline irritating.
Maybe a bit shy of a ringing endorsement, but taint bad MaGee.

I know this is a little late in coming but you can blame George Grand - of the Jersey Grands. When he responded to the FFFF thread he mentioned The Four Seasons (W/ Frankie Valli) and it got me to thinking about another group of this era. I went to the dusty stack of old LPs and sure enought there they were...three LP albums from The Association. A mid 60's group considered to be "pop" by many but they were very good muscians. I will always remember when I was in a church youth choir the director would bring up this group as a R & R group he could actually stand because they sang excellent tight harmony.

All three LP's are boldly marked STEREO.

And Then... Along Comes The Association - 1966 - "Along Comes Mary' and "Cherish" (a wonderful song to slowdance to with nubile 15 year old girls!).

Insight Out - 1967 - "Windy" and "Never My Love" (ditto Cherish above except the girls were now 16 years old!).

Birthday - 1968 - " A Time For Livin' ", "The Time It Is Today" and "Everything That Touches You". Not as much slow dancing but there were other diversions with the now 17 year old girls.

I guess I have to get a cartridge for my turntable or find a "hits" CD. Then I can pop it in, turn out the lights, put on the headphones and remember the more pleasant aspects of my long lost youth...Becky...Mary Ann...Audrea...Sharon...Candy...Jo...Sheila... :D

    Two things...

First I was searching Wal-Mart.com for a plumbing Auger when up pops a double, Best of... CD of:
    Brian Auger's Oblivion Express
I think this is an "A" that got away and shouldn't have. I had a couple C-90's of his early 70's stuff that must have gotten lost in the cassette drawer.
Anyway I remember it being pretty good jazz-rock stuff... worth a post anyway...

Second, if you look at my opening post in this and the "BBBB" threads, you'll see my first attempt to index our posts. Turns out it's not that hard and I need the list to figure out what I need to buy (it's a bunch)...

EDIT: Actually the "B's" index is a fair way down page one, When we determine a fix for inserting the table, I'll mail a copy to Paul to insert since he kicked off week 2.

Kind of a mess right now as I created them in a word table and all te formatting gets trashed when I copy/paste it into the edit. From here on I'll insert some kind of upload into the openings cause I think that will allow me to substitute the table in the future.

I have also e-mailed an appeal for assistance to the Polk Web-Gods to fix the first few letters’ posts… but if any of y’all know how I can, please let me know…

I was just listening Richard Ashcrofts: Alone With Everyone CD (Virgin Records/June 2000). What a great solo album from the former Verve frontman.(remember "Urban Hymns"?)

Great tracks from start to finish. Kicks off strong with "A song for the lovers". Other notables is A Brave New World, New York, You on my mind in my sleep, On a Beach, and C'Mon People.

Ashcroft has a very soothing voice, which I can literally go to sleep to. Just love the mans work. He has a new CD out called Human Conditions, but I have yet to listen to it. Although initial reviews are praising a worthy sophmore effort.
