Al Harris, star cornerback for the Green Bay Packers, left Sunday's game with the Cowboys due to cramping and blood in his urine.

You know what caused that?

Granted it's unconfirmed yet but the injury fits the symptoms perfectly.

Harris' had his spleen ruptured.

Yes, his SPLEEN!

That's a new one on me! I've seen hernias, I've seen torn abdominal walls and internal bruising and such but that's the first time I heard of a spleen being ruptured.

If that is the case, he needs surgery that is very invasive because they have to cut open his abdominal wall. That's 4-6 weeks of healing and then he likely will have to take it easy the rest of the season. He's probably out for the rest of the season.

A kid I knew in high school lost a kidney after being speared in the back on a kickoff return. He was one of those over-achievers who had no business even being on a football field.
That probably kept him out of Vietnam, which at the time I'm sure he regretted.

Thought I would add this to the list. Since the Chicago Bears are not doing so well they put out a BIG offer to Michael Irvin to come play for them. He is considering it for sure he said. When a reporter asked the coach for Chicago why they were going to try and bring an old receiver back into action they responded, "Well, the way we see it, we use to have the Fridge so we might as well get a Coke machine too".

Sounds to me like Aunt Flo made a surprise visit.

(joking, obviously, hope it turns out ok)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Ruptured spleens are common in car accidents and other situations where the body experiences severe trauma. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more in football.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Notta thing really, I read that joke as I was on a site about football related injuries. My fingers acted before my brain had a chance to kick in I suppose. I thought it was humerous.:)

Chris Simms had a spleen injury while he was with Tampa Bay and had to have it removed. He's back out there this season although not starting.

    Similar injury, different league:

Peter Forsburg had his removed during the playoffs the year before the NHL strike from the beating he received by the LA Kings...

I remember that, ruptured speen in the first half and he finished playing the game. harcore man, retarded, but hardcore.

he was in bad effin shape after that game. probably knee deep in shock.

the blood in the urine could be a bruised kidney. I've been down that ugly road last year when I took a viscous kidney shot while boxing a friend of mine (who happens to hit like a ton of effing bricks)
