Subwoofer Shenanigans

I am setting up my HT and I am brainstorming about my sub position. My backdrop is a freestanding wall in the middle open on all sides.I have two HUGE subs (not pictured)- The SVS PC Ultra/2 and the SVS PC Plus/2.
My idea is to place them behind the wall on the other side (behind) of the HT because it would be too crowded otherwise. I have a channel to pass the cables through so connection won't be difficult. Since the room is basically open should it matter? it's basically the same space that needs to be pressurized.

I agree but, .......! If it were me, I would put them on L&R with a custom built shelving system that puts a top slightly above the subs.
FWIW - My rig isn't nearly as dedicated, but if it were, I wouldn't compromise.Make it Funky! -

I don't follow...but I am not sure it will be a compromise. It might be pretty cool. I will know when my receiver gets here.Sharp Elite 70

I think what you're suggesting will work. Freq sweeps/plotting will tell the whole story. I'd recommend you get some bookshelf speakers and sell me your VR4jrs at a great price--but that's just my 2 cents. I think you need to climb out of "your needs" and think about what would be best for your speakers...:DSource: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

With two subs that large you could put them out side on the roof and it wouldn't matter!Casey

I would toss your couch and get a queen size mattress to lay across the subs as a futon.

I think it would work. What way would you face them? Out to the sides, In toward each other or backwards as in car audio away from the HT Wall?
Outward would probably give you good dispersion.
Inward would probably have the biggest bang or should I say boom for the buck. Almost isobarick but limited to directly in front more than dispersed.
That's a neat setup you have there. Can't wait to see it all set up and nice. -
I'm not sure yet. Sideways for sure so they don't stick out into the kitchen. I will have to experiment with the facing directions. I am going to use my SMS 1 for fine tuning.Sharp Elite 70

Should work fine. Pretty cool idea to provide a back wall there. I like it._________________________________________________

Agreed. It should work very well for music, too. Dang, how close are the neighbors??? I'm sure by fine tuning with the SMS-1 your placement options open up some what.

Don't worry about it. Just do it.
I've heard of other sub setups similar to yours and the results were very positive. Play around with the phase adjustments if you like.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Working on this today. I am pretty much redoing the entire HT so it may not be done by tonight.Sharp Elite 70

It's not working out. The bass just doesn't sound right. I am really surprised too. I used the SMS-1 and tried every configuration and phase etc and it's just anemic. The readings are much better with them in the front stage but boy is it crowded.Sharp Elite 70
