Metallica, Run-DMC and The Stooges are among the nominees for the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class. For the first time in 12 years, the ceremony will be held April 4th in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Other nominees include Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, War, Little Anthony and the Imperials and Bobby Womack.

If Run-DMC get voted in, they will be the second hip-hop group behind 2008 inductees Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. First-time nominees Metallica have grabbed the honor in only their second year of eligibility, while fellow first timers the Stooges have been eligible for well over a decade. This marks the fifth time that Chic has been nominated for the Hall. Tickets for the ceremony — which will be held at Cleveland’s Public Hall — will be made available to the public, a Hall of Fame first.

Some worthy nominees....but where's the Moody Blues, Genesis, Hall & Oates, Peter Gabriel/Phil Collins, Linda Ronstadt, Duran Duran, etc.

Nothing personal, but I can't stand Hip Hop. Why would a Hip Hop group even be considered for the R&R HoF? And why should Run-DMC even get a nomination before names like the Moody Blues, Genesis, Gabriel/Collins and Ms. Ronstadt?

I imagine Aerosmith will eventually be inducted into the Hip Hop/Rap Hall of Fame :D

Also, where's Chicago, the Go Go's, the Bangles?

Once again Rush gets dissed, but oh yes, Madonna and Run DMC belong?! Give me a break. The Hall is a joke.

    Good call on The Stooges.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

The R&RHoF is the biggest joke ever and I'm from Cleveland. Seriously, half the music going in their nowadays is not even Rock. Sure they may had their influences, but come on. God, I am so glad I left Cleveland. The **** that happens in that city pisses me off on multitple levels. I'd venture to even say that some bands like Rush are left out and others included in order to fill certain kinds of quota systems per the sensibilities of some morons.

Most halls of fame are a joke, this one is no different. History determines who has been influential and which bands and artists have staying power, the rest rightfully fade into oblivion.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
