Isn't the Carver you reference a power amp? What are you using for a pre now? What source components do you have?

I think you are using the HK AVR as your pre/processor and the Carver as a power amp, per what I see in this thread? I don't see the speakers you reference in your post in the gear in your sig, so are you replacing the RTi12's or building another system for 2 ch music listening? Give us all the info you can!

for a pre amp to work it must be connected to a amp.. (power amp).

so you would connect your CD player to your pre amp, connect the pre amp to the amp.. then connect your speakers to the amp. then you get awesome sounds. :)

so from your list of equipment it appears you are using your RECEIVER the HARMAN KARDON AVR 7300 as your pre amp.. and using the Carver as your amp.

nothing wrong with that.. but to bring the quality up.. it would be best to buy a stand alone pre amp. since you already have the Carver amp. :)

If you're happy with it, leave it be. But if you're really itching to upgrade, how much are you looking to spend?

the Carver amp is fine... i'd look into a different pre amp.. depends on what you want to accomplish though.

let us know if you are using this for only listening to 2 channel or are you looking to build a 5.1 surround sound home theater.

You can typically buy used Carver pre-amps and pre-tuners used often in $ 150-$200 range. The Adcom pre-tuners were also good performers that typically sell in that price range as well.
