I replied to this same question in a different forum recently, so I'll just paste it below. This is mostly geared towards many of the originators of electric blues.

I didn't list a lot a specific CDs (except the ones in quotes), but rather the original labels of the recordings. You'll find a lot of good "best of" collections from Chess/MCA and Rhino based on the artists' work from these labels.

    Muddy Waters: Chess
    Howlin' Wolf: Chess
    Little Walter: Chess
    Sonny Boy Williamson: Chess
    Lowell Fulson: Chess
    Elmore James: Fire
    B.B. King: Modern/Kent/RPM/Crown
    John Lee Hooker: Modern, Vee-Jay
    Jimmy Reed: Vee-Jay
T-Bone Walker: Atlantic, Imperial, "T-Bone Blues"
    Freddie King: King/Federal
    Albert King: King, Stax
Johnny "Guitar" Watson: "Best of (Rhino)"
    Guitar Slim: "Sufferin' Mind"
Otis Rush: "Right Place, Wrong Time", "So Many Roads (Live)"
    Buddy Guy: Chess, Vanguard
Eric Clapton: "Blues" - This does not necessarily fit with the others, but is a good compilation of his Blues work.
    5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. DC-1/RB-1582 MKII/Sonos Connect also feed Polk 7C in garage or Dayton IO655 on patio.
    2.1 ch Basement Gym: Denon AVR-2807/Klipsch Forte I or NHT SB2/JBL SUB 550P x 2/Chromecast Audio.
    2.0 ch Living Room: Rotel RX-1052/Emotiva DC-1/Klipsch RF-7 III/Sony ES BDP/LG 65" LED.
    2.0 ch Semi-portable: Klipsch Powergate/NHT SB3/Chromecast Audio.
    Kitchen: Sonos Play5.

Here's some great blues for ya. It's turned into one of my favorite CDs. Track 5 will blow the windows out with bass and Etta James on track 7 is as good as it gets.
Excellent remastering with good analog quality sound.

    A few more:

    Tommy Castro - www.tcband.com
    John Nemeth - www.johnnemethblues.com

One of the best live blues series is the three album "American Folk Blues Festival" series from '63, 64', and the lost blues tape release from those years. Very nice live soundstage that will make you think the artists on stage are in the room with you. Favorite track is "Sail On" by Roosevelt Sykes

Some new groups with a lotta mojo = Pig in a Can (wha?), Little Axe, The Black Keys.

Well this is an interesting 6 degrees of musical Kevin Bacon.

Here's your answer and solution. You need to find blues music. Not only do you need to find and entire genre' you need to find about 15 minutes to play in class. Well; here's your song, it's called "Blues-o-rama" by Duke Robillard. He plays a song that's roughly sixteen minutes long and composed of other blues songs pieced together by multiple other blues artists. Its a great song that will fit your report perfectly.

I listen to a lot of blues music.
You're gonna have to set up a good mono turntable for '78s.
Some of the best recordings EVER are on 78 viny. Stereo is cool but the good "old" treasures are scribed in the old thick wax.
Don't let them get away without a listen. MUST have music!!!

I think you can search in google and also search particular songs websites for blues music. Otherwise you can refer site of blues for movie and music.

I have found that recently i go to pandora and put in SRV. This plays all different types of artist. I listed to this almost daily.

On a side not. Just purchased my tickets to a concert in August. BB King, Buddy Guy, and Al Green. Really looking forward to this one.

+1. That Rory DVD gets more play than all of my blues DVD's. He has a Rockpalast DVD (4 disc) thats awsome as well but the SQ isnt as good as the Montruex. Also a live at Cork thats pretty sweet but was his latter years and just wasnt as lively...RIP Rory

Seeing as I'm just getting into this genre and my generation has really missed the boat on this type of music (I'm 24), I was counting on Club Polk to point me in the right direction.

I am in the exact same boat as you (24, love SRV, but don't know where to go next) and am so glad I happened along this thread. Thanks, everyone for the suggestions - I LOVE this type of music and can't wait to get some more of it.

I'm 25 and a recent Blues convert (besides rock blues which I've been digging since I was allowed to transition into secular music, yes I said allowed :D). But there's a guy no one has mentioned who is quite popular in Europe but still hasn't found mainstream success in The States. The Ironman himself, Michael Burks! In all seriousness, I've seen him perform twice at The Double Door Inn in Charlotte NC (a staple blues venue in the southeast: Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dave Alvin, Leon Russell, Buddy Guy, Junior Brown, Bob Margolin etc have played there) and he's absolutely amazing. There's so much emotion in his playing and he plays for 3 - 4 hours with only one break. Mmmm, damn I can't wait to see him again. I Smell Smoke is a great album.

Watch this all the way through, but if you must skip, he ends the solo at 3:30ish in.

Ok boys I have a treat if you have not came across it. I recently found a Rare Live SRV and Double trouble Live in Japan from 1985. I think it was sourced from LD commercial release. Video isnt that bad, and Audio is pretty damn good. I have no clue if it will ever be released to DVD int he states. But if you are a fan you can find it out there. :D

Heres a little on what i found out.

The show is just plain awsome. A MUST HAVE for any SRV fan.

Look up a guy named Ben Prestage, he's a one man band and one of the most talented performers I've ever seen live. He plays cigar box guitars, among others, and is starting to make a name for himself. Hendrix's blues are still some of the best I've ever heard, but I'll give my nod to Albert King as my favorite blues artist ever. And if you're going to include Eric Clapton on the list, then John Mayer deserves his place as well. He's the best blues guitarist I've ever heard live, and I've seen quite a few. His live album is really good, especially his cover of "Bold as Love." It's about time to forgive him for "Your Body is a Wonderland."
