Monitor 50 Appreciation Thread

I just recently bought a pair of Monitor 50's and the words "blown away" wouldn't even begin to describe how I feel about these speakers.

At first, when went to these from a pair of Infinity Primus P362's, I considered it more of a step downward as opposed to an upgrade. My ears had had enough of those metal tweets.

The P362's boasted a 4th order 3-way crossover, MMD drivers...etc. But they were bright, the guitars sounded "off" IMO, and I think Infinity focused too much on their bass output and not enough in other more crucial areas.

These Monitor 50's are proof to me that subjective listening ultimately prevails, and that all of the bad consumer reviews I read about them are either the result of poor set-ups, biased ears, or spiteful customers.

Anyone else feel the way I do about these or Monitor series in general?

My monitor speakers are a huge step up from the Bose speakers they replaced.

After about 30 hours of play, the mids seem to be blending with the sub a lot more nicely now. I suppose that is a sign that they are starting to break in? Or are break-in periods "mythical" as some people say?

i'm not sure, i think its mythical. i've bought used speakers before and then felt like they were "breaking in". then i realized they are used and have already been broken in long ago

Perhaps it is just my imagination. At any rate, they for some reason just sound better and better with each passing day.

What really sticks out in my mind is how I had read a consumer review in which someone said he couldn't tell the difference between his Monitor 50's and pair of R50's he had owned.

There is obviously a huge difference. I don't see how someone could not notice it.

I had a pair of 50s and enjoyed them a great deal. It seemed to me they improved a bit over the first month of use; the highs got a little bit softer perhaps.

This proves absolutely nothing of course. It may have been my head getting softer. But congrats on your purchase. They are very nice speakers.
