Old Yankee Stadium, built around 1921 is being replaced with a new facility right next door. The old stadium has a lot of history. Whether you are a fan of the Yankees or not doesn't matter. This is a place of baseball history, and will be missed.

Check out the attachment, which was a letter written by Mickey Mantle to the New York Yankees some years ago. Snopes lists the authenticity of this letter as "undetermined".

What do you think?

Makes you think of all the new memories that will be made in the new stadium.

When old Comiskey Park was knocked down in 1991, White Sox fans were bummed, but we didn't expect the whole country to get weepy on our behalf. Every fan has his own baseball cathedral. This notion that YS is "the" baseball cathedral is one more facet of ESPN's intensely irritating fixation with Bos & NY sports. God help us when Fenway finally gets axed. They'll call for a month of national mourning.

We're not building horrible astro turf multi sport ovals anymore; the new parks nowadays are better than the old.

Too bad.......the stadium is still in good shape. It was upgraded a few years back. It's a money thing. A guy who has had season tix since '76 when they were $8 a piece has seen his tix go up to $250 each today or $81K for four tix for the season. In the new stadium which by the way holds fewer people his tickets will be.....hold on...... $3.2 million! Yes, it's true. It's sick. Oh the new tix include parking and free food........ This policy will price out even the fairly well to do fan much less the regular guy. Corporations will buy up these tickets and use them as gifts all the while getting to write them off on their taxes. I hate what my country is becoming.................

I can't believe the people of NY paid for that stadium. SCHMUCKS!
If George can afford to pay GAYROD 1/4 mil, he can afford a stadium.

Seems all the new stadiums for most sports are paid for by the taxpayers, most of whom can't afford tickets to the same stadium. Ridiculous.

agreed guys, new stadium for rich folks, corporations, and legal ticket scalpers. I guess being a fan of a sports team makes people feel better, so they get away with it, with everything else going on its just getting old real quick.
