Quality of Polk Refurbished products?
I'm considering buying a pair of refurbished Polk RTi8's from their ebay store but was wondering how dinged up their refurbs are. Does anybody have some experience with their refurbs?
Thanks
Thanks

They aren't factory blemished or b stock, they are refurbs - they should look and function as new.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

the description of "refurbished" on the polk auctions say something like "contains cosmetic blemishes." it doesnt say "may contain," just "contain."KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780

I had no blemishes, cosmetic damage or imperfections on any of the speakers I bought from them. Also you can get the RTI a5's just as cheap as the 8's.They don't carry a FULL WARRANTY which is 5 years , but a limited factory warranty which is 6 months .
This is what they state:
Factory refurbished products are returned (or open box returned) product that have been refurbished and certified by Polk Audio to match Polk’s performance, functionality, and reliability standards of new product. Refurbished products have minor cosmetics blemishes and/or imperfections. The manual and accessories are included. Refurbished speakers are covered by a Polk Audio limited warranty. Visit polkaudio.com/support for warranty details. Cosmetic blemishes and imperfections are not covered by the warranty -
I too also just purchased ($379) a pair of cherry RTi A5's from Polk Direct on Ebay. They arrived looking and smelling brand new in their RTi A5 boxes. I looked over every inch of the cabinets with not a blemish, imperfection or a scratch to be found anywhere. It's head shaking to me that I got these A5's for $20 cheaper than what I paid for the A3's ($399) from Crutchfield . They only negative is a "refurbished" 6 month warranty versus a "new" 5 year warranty. I'll take the 180 day warranty and the $400 savings off of Crutchfields $799 price tag for a pair of A5's.Onkyo TX-SR705

I wish the word didn't get out on how good their Ebay store is, I want some better deals."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

+1
But Polk has also put a lot of BUY IT NOW on many of their items for this reasons. Speakers were being sold dirt cheap.
I paid $256 for a pair of rti a5's and $82 for some rti a1's. I'm wonering why the value of the new RTI A series is so low. Only being out a year and they're already selling for half of what they should. You can get some of the RTI A series cheaper than the older series. -

POLK only has BUY IT NOW on the a5's, no auctions. Shipping was $60, now it's $90 on the a5's and they also charge taxes. -
I've kept Polk's ebay store pretty busy the last month or so, having bought 5 sets of refurbs from them. 4 sets have been delivered, and I have yet to find a mark on any of them. They also perform (to my unpolished ear) flawlessly. I wouuld not hesitate to buy more speakers through them, and highly recommend them.

I sent Polk Direct a message on Ebay, and they confirmed that their refurbs carry the full factory warranty of 5 years.

Regarding Amazon's open box deals (sold through Warehouse deals) I was also told that the full warranty would be in effect. The only catch is that I cannot return the speaker for scratches etc... The Csi5 that one I just got from Amazon does indeed have a minor "blemish" but I'm not compalining since I only paid $198 (shipped).MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

OK, but that is not what there warranty info says if you click through the links at the ebay direct store. Refurb= 180 days."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason." -

That's interesting-I got my refurb LSi9s in NEW condition, but they slapped a big fat sticker over the original warranty wording showing 180 days for the warranty.
The auctions for the refurbs do show that they come with the full manufacture warranty:You are bidding on a Factory Refurbished product, direct from Polk Audio. It comes direct from Polk Audio and has the original factory warranty. To learn more about what Factory Refurbished means, click here.
And that's what I thought until somebody pointed out to me the non-obvious-if you click here as instructed, you're taken a bit further down the listing to the "Warranty, Returns and Exchanges" section and you see this blurb:Factory Remanufactured and Refurbished products from Polk Audio include warranties direct from Polk Audio. To see a complete list of warranty information, visit polkaudio.com/supportRefurbished for home speakers and electronics
Limited One-Hundred and Eighty Day Warranty
Polk Audio, Inc., warrants to the original retail purchaser only. This warranty will terminate automatically prior to its stated expiration if the original retail purchaser sells or transfers the product to any other party.
Polk Audio, Inc., warrants, to the original retail purchaser only, that the LOUDSPEAKER(S), and PASSIVE CROSSOVER COMPONENT(S) on this Polk Audio Loudspeaker Product will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one-hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of original retail purchase from Polk Audio.
Furthermore, Polk Audio, Inc., warrants, to the original retail purchaser only, that any AMPLIFIER OR OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENT that may be included in this Polk Audio Loudspeaker Product will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one-hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of original retail purchase from Polk Audio.
Furthermore, Polk Audio, Inc., does not warrant any COSMETIC APPEARANCE, IMPERFECTIONS OR BLEMISHES on this Polk Audio Loudspeaker Product.
Not sure why they would say one thing in the main listing, and another elsewhere, unless they're making an exception for items sold on ebay, but then why reference the main warranty policy?
I would like to see something conrete from Polkaudio on this discrepancy.
I should note however that none of the other refurbs I bought from Polkdirect had the same kind of warranty/user manual modification as the LSi9's did and they included several other floorstanding and outdoors speakers.
And I too agree that all the refurbs I recieved, were in NEW condition. If they are in fact new, and if they do in fact have a 180 day warranty I belive they are sold as Refurbs simply to limit the length of the warranty. but if they in fact have a full 5 year warranty..:D...well then I have no idea. I'll be a happy camper but until I actually see something written...It'd be a good idea for you to hang on to that correspodence you recieved from polkdirect. I know I printed the eBay listing page with the blurb about having the full original warranty, just in case I have any troubkles down the road, but something tells me that with all the rave about how Polk CS is so good (I haven't had the pleasure yet)-that I likely wouldn't have any issues anyway. :cool:____________________

Actually, according to the site's description, the Refurbs are described as possibly having minor blemishes, etc.
The Remanufactured items are the ones that woudl look and function like new.
Although, as I and others here have stated, thus far the refurbs are shipping as if they were in new or remanufacturer condition, except that the box had Refurbished printed on the labling somewhere.Factory remanufactured products are returned (or open box returned) product that have been remanufactured and certified by Polk Audio to match Polks performance, functionality, reliability and cosmetic standards of new product. The sticker was on the back of my LSi manual. The "Refurbished" is printed on the outside of the box. I'll try to get some pics.
None of the manuals of the other speakers I got had stickers on the manuals.____________________

None of the manuals of the other speakers I got had stickers on the manuals.
Just a couple shots of the sticker on the outside of the shipping box-doesn't mention the warranty but makes it clear that these are classified as Refurbs.
Earlier I mention other floorstanders-Actually the other floorstanders I bought were NIB-not Refurb. So far though, everythign that I bought as refurb was marked at least on the outside of the box, and the LSis are th only ones that had the sticker. All from Polkdirect and all in New condition.

I bought a refurb Onk and it appeared to be Brand Spankin new to me. If I didn't know I wouldn't have known (if you followed that).
Same with the Polk refurbs.____________________
