I have been collecting MP3 and other misc audio and video files and am working on designing a system to allow me to access all the files from a network server from multiple locations throughout my home. Has anyone done this. I think the main criteria is that I want to have whole house audio and independent audio accessing the same server. Say server playing music on all stations and one station playing it's own thing. Any thoughts. Sound and vision had an article about the Onkyo net player this month....

Have any comments to share on the slimp3? I was looking at the Audiotron tonight. It looks pretty cool. I am thinking about saving up the dough real quick to get one. 4 computers between me and my two roommates, with lots of music to share. Anyways, what are your thoughts?

The Slimp3 rocks man. Great audio quality, nice and small, informative LCD that is customizable.

Lots of 3rd party plugins too, stock tickers, and stuff.

It just gets better and better all the time!

I just bought and installed the cd3o c300. I paid about 120 bucks for it on ebay (used) It works wirelessly with my wifi internet in my apartment, and has optical, dig. coax, and regular rca outputs. I have it plugged into my stereo in the living room, and I play the music from my computer in my bedroom. It is set up so that I can control the music either from the computer or from the living room using the voice readout dj built into the cd3o. I have only been using it for a couple of days now, but I have been very satisfied so far. The sound quality seems great as far as mp3s go, it is small, has a lot of outputs, looks cool, and the voice readout isnt too bad if u can get used to some poor pronunciation (your mp3 collection needs to be well-labeled bc the cd3o reads the id3 tags i believe). Overall, im very satisfied with it and would recommend it. oh, and you can have more than one receiver controlled at the same computer....

With the Cd30 being wirless 802.11B, and with my WLAN on G, will that not slow down the whole network to B speeds?

The network will slow down to B while the B device is actively using the network. G probably isn't as much faster than B as you think. And unless it causes you a problem why worry?

Well, one of my roommates and I are pretty much downloading stuff all day long. Our speeds, true, aren't all that much higher than the limits of B speed, but they are higher.
