Anyone else tried iTunes 8 Genius feature? I just tried it out the other day and am loving it! Basically you can select any song in your library and click the Genius button and iTunes will automatically generate a playlist based off that song. Of course it will also tell you other songs that you don't have that would work well with the list and provides direct links to download them.

What I like best about it is that it will choose songs from albums that I may not have really given a fair chance in the past, but are really good. I actually feel like I'm getting far more out of my music collection because of this feature!

Go on......Go try it!:D

That's not of much use when riding in the car or mowing the lawn.

I tried it. Pandora works much better. Hell, the Zune software doesn't require a lengthy upload and it was very quick compared to Genius.

    Still cool

I don't really care about the genius feature. I tried it and it wasn't anything that I'm really in love with.

I do like the new iPods though :)

I like Pandora as well, but unfortunately for them (and us) it doesn't look like they're long for this world. Royalty fees are threatening to put them out of business very soon.

Genius is a nice feature though. A great way to rediscover some of your own music as well as helping you find more. Not quite as great as Pandora but still a nice feature. It's not like it costs anything, how much can you really **** about it?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Here's a Washington Post article about it, and here's an interview with the founder.

There's still hope, but the gist of it :
“We’re just being charged more than other forms of radio. At the current pace if we did our projected $23-$24 million this year we would be paying $17 million in royalty fees. That’s 70 percent of our revenue. Someone explain to me how that is fair when satellite radio is charged only about 7.5 percent for its music. It’s really ridiculous.”

The Genius feature is very nice and it is making playlists with some great music I haven't listened to a while. Pandora is fantastic as well but it doesn't work with the music I actually own which is all in ALAC format. I love having Genius on my computer, phone and iPod.

I just upgraded to iTunes 8 and am havibg a problem. When I connect my iPod to my computer to sync my library I receive a message "new hardware detected". Then a message comes up saying the software conflicts with Windows and "may permanently disable your operating system". Any idea how to correct this?

1994 called, they want their stupid reply back.

JSHRN, you may want to try a clean install - completely uninstall iTunes and then install from scratch.
