My X called, and told me to fill my tank. Supposedly there is a gas shortage in GA due to... well....

People are taking it seriously, and gas stations are running out of gas.

There was a big gas shortage here, but it was because of hurricane ike. They were price gouging the hell outta gas here too...jumped up a quarter in one day. Then 10 cents more in the days to follow. Still haven't come down. Effin ridiculous.

The gouging was part of the problem. The Gov of Ga just instated a law to prevent gouging, but with all the complaints they are subpoenaing the stations' records which is for some reason interfering with them getting more fuel:confused: I am real glad I don't use much gas.

    Hmmmm....

I thought it was very odd when I drove by my gas station (BP) this morning and it was closed.

When I hit my 4th gas station this morning, I was "privileged" to receive only 10 gallons of the only available gas [premium] at the low, low price of only $4.43/gal.. This is so much FUN!

I'm already out of gas and tomorrow I get to do it all over again! Yea!

Gouging is more than a 25 cent rise..............

Several years back in AZ I had to wait in a line at 4 different stations (before they all ran out) because some dumbass working a piece of construction equipment shattered the line between Tucson and Phoenix........I think i paid slightly under $5 when the price was down in the low to mid 2's at that time.........

Oh yeah. Gas stations around me have been out of gas for days. Still. When they do get it, they all restrict you to 10 gallons and even with that rule they run out quickly for another couple of days. I have actually wasted 2 or so gallons of fuel looking to buy 10 gallons of fuel. Personally, I have no other way around it or my business comes to a complete standstill.

Makes sense, right? Well, that's the American way.

Last week we went up from $3.59 to $5.00+ in a matter of hours. They claimed the same thing as well. Shortages were forcing them to pay more to the wholesalers...etc. Interesting that none of the stations that went up $1.50 in 4-5 hours had their tanks filled during that time. We are back down to $3.39 after the state started asking for "proof" of the price jump down the line. Some of the stations said they were actually selling the gas at a loss to "take care of their customers". Yeah right!

We had gouging last week in SC, specifically Fri., then some stations ran out over the wknd., but the prices have been slowly dropping. I saw one Pilot 'out of order', (not out of gas?) this A.M. And we get our gas thru GA., so....WTF?

Nothing has changed here. Weird thing is I traveled through the northern part of east and west SC today and gas prices varied as much as sixty-six cents for regular. It seemed to be lower right off the main highways.

    How to beat gas stations:
    Step 1 - Buy a bicycle.

I've saved more money than I can count (ok, exaggeration) riding my bike to work. And I don't even ride every day. Filling up my tank once a month is very satisfying. :)

Since I am at work, well, we got gas in SE Ga.

About half of the gas stations in my area seem to be running out or low.

Well.. now I'm hearing that most stations within the perimeter are either out of gas or suffering twenty car lines. Cops are actually directing traffic around the stations. A whole bunch of stalled cars are also causing traffic jams and wrecks on the interstate. Craziness.

Everyone in GA panicked because of ike. The price of oil droped after the damage from Ike was not as bad as forcasted. I was there all last week. Everyone was getting gas before they needed it and topping off their tanks all day calling everyone they knew after they filled up of course. It is the reason that gas prices are sky rocketing. Supply and demand not price gouging is the problem. As soon as we left GA the gas stations were fine.

Everyone in GA buys out all the bread and milk when there is a forecast for snow. It is unbelievable. I would hate to see a strom called Sherman, Everyone would be running for the hills with there grey coats, milk and bread and their gallons of gas.

We're starting to see this again in Knoxville. Half the stations are out of gas altogether and the most of the rest are out of regular. At least THIS time they are not gouging the public but selling what they have at the price they were yesterday.

Asheville, NC: Drove to work this morning, passed about 10 stations, of which two had gas, and they had lines around the corner and out of sight. One had a couple of cops managing the line.

Local radio stations have a list of stations with gas --- 8 stations on the list last time I checked, for the whole county.

Asheville mayor on radio predicted these conditions would continue for 5 or 10 days. Looks like I'll be taking the bus for a while.

7 gas stations my wife passed by yesterday. 7 had no gas. The 8th had a line that took her about 40 minutes to get up to the pump. I passed 6 gas stations earlier on that day. 6 had no gas. The 7th had gas, a long line that was blocking traffic on two different roads, the intersection and both exits to the grocery store. Folks were so concerned about getting in line, folks couldn't leave the damn pumps after getting gas because nobody wanted to "lose" their spot in line. AAA reports that members running out of gas has risen 20% this week alone. They also report that they are also having a hard time getting gas to supply those folks who are running out.

We also have radio stations telling folks where the stations are that have gas. Many times, by the time the folks get there and wait in line, the gas is already out. I witnessed a station run out of gas in less than 2 hours today. Each line [about 5 of them into 10 pumps] were about 30-40 cars deep long and also caused a major traffic nightmare during this mornings rush hour.

I actually saw an older couple that had to back up to the pump they were in line for and not once, but twice someone took their spot in line. I finally had to literally stand in front of the next car wanting to cut them off and motion them in. That's about the closest I have come to a fist fight in a LONG time. The folks in the car wanting to cut the old folks off wanted to kick my **** because I wouldn't move. Lucky for me a cop pulled in and some other folks saw what was happening and got out of their cars to assist.

Unreal. Southern folks are usually a polite and kind society, especially when it comes to the elderly. I guess being polite and waiting your turn doesn't qualify when nobody can find gas. I can't believe that I feel "privileged" to have a full tank of gas. The whole situation stinks as bad as our nation's economy.
