Elvis Presley's 30 #1 Hits!

Anyone else out there own this Gem of a DVD-A? Personally, at age 30, I've never been a huge Elvis fan. I certainly don't walk the walk or talk the talk and Elvis conventions are still a mystery to me. Ive never even owned a previous Elvis CD, Tape or LP. But my reintroduction to Elvis Presley with the recent release of his 30 #1 hits on DVD Audio has been a huge eye opener.
I think one of the main reasons I never took to Elvis Presley is because the music I heard always sounded so old. Not in terms of being dated to irrelevant the emotions and music appeal of younger audiences (compared to its original release dates), but because the quality simply seemed old. Much like watching a childhood movie that you thought had amazing special effects looking like a joke, not believe how real it looked back then.
Elvis 30 #1 Hits had the emotional impact of seeing the Star Wars Special Editions in that grand THX Certified theatre back in the 90s. It made me want to throw all my old copies of the VHS tapes out the window and makes me drool for the day it appears on DVD.
With all due respect, any song by Elvis has the right to sound dated since, by comparison, the resources and capabilities of the recording industry back then simply wasnt up to todays standards. Many of his original recordings were made in mono for heaven sake.
Now I realize many musical audiophiles are dead set on hearing recordings as such as they were originally recorded. Much like the many who couldnt believe George Lucas would change his Star Wars Trilogy. Which is fineto each his ownbut I believe rejuvenated recordings such as these are imperative towards introducing older material like this to younger audiences.
When I heard the new mixes of songs like Burning Love, (Youre The Devil) In Disguise, Suspicious Minds, and Heartbreak Hotel, my jaw simply dropped. I couldnt believe I was listening to music recorded back in the 50s. Ive never heard music from that era with such amazing presence and fullness. The acoustically expansion the 5.1 audio mix provides songs like Return To Sender with all the splendor of a modern day recording.
Yes, you can still tell it wasnt recorded by a modern rock group, but on many of the mixes, you couldve sworn the hard-core fans were right Elvis is alive and recording 5.1 music at BMG music studios!
The DVD-A disc also includes 5 bonus ~1minute tracks that do A>B comparisons and demonstrate that amazing difference in quality Ive been talking about. But believe me, you dont need to listen to the A>B comparisons to know youre listening to Elvis Presley in a whole new way.
For technical information, the Elvis Information Network posted an Interview with David Bendeth who produced this new DVD-A.

Even if you're not a huge Elvis fan, this CD may change your mind. I've listened to it six times since I bought it a few days ago.

Here is another Elvis recording that is nothing short of awesome, Elvis 24 Karat Hits! on DCC gold disc. It's a limited edition remaster from the original master tapes by the guru, Steve Hoffman. While out of print, you should be able to find a copy on eBay from time to time. Some of it is mono, but most is stereo and all of it sounds full and alive.

I've got the cd. Actually, Burning Love and Suspicious Minds were much later. Suspicous Minds, I wanna say was 1968 or 69 and Burning Love was early 70's (71 or 72). It's a good CD but I've got another collection (50 gold hits or some such) that I actually think is a better recording.
You guys that don't own any material by the KING are missing out. He is pretty much where it all started and is THE standard. For better or worse, that's the way it is.

For many, of all ages, the mental images of a bloated, aging Vegas lounge balladere cloud the fact that he was the original white rocker. And that when he rocked in his youth, the world was "All Shook Up".
Good to see that "younger" folk have and are taking advantage of the opportunity to experience my... I mean... his work...More later,
