purchase a receiver after using 'selective' researching (only wanted to listen to the positive reviews and shunned the negs) only to find out it's not 'all that' and besides, the next year's model comes out only two months later for the same price you just paid.

instead of having a dedicated listening or theater room, you decide you need to dedicate a 2 channel and/or theater system to EVERY ROOM!

How about this one -- changing out components for many years in the same room, only to finally realize that inexpensive acoustic panels made the biggest difference, by far.

How about completely disassembling your system and putting it back together again with the intention of achieving perfect placement and dialing everything in . . . and yet once complete and turned on, you are greeted by a deep effing ground loop. So you spend all night unplugging an rearranging the equipment until the problem is resolved. Only you can't resolve the problem! So you go to Lowes and buy some cheater plugs because eveyone tells you its a fine fix. Only once you have the plugs in place and the loop is gone, you can't help but think the 2 cents cheater plugs are completely stupid between your $100 powercord and your $50 outlet. Plus, you know those plugs have to be made like crap. So you throw the plugs out and take the whole system apart again!

That's exactly why I went with PS audio cables with the removable ground pin.

I wonder if that would stop the old lady from getting on my case about the fast and furious upgrade path.

Might be time to try? Although i'm really apprehensive about going to tubes, i think that would be the nail in the coffin for my pocketbook, and my project car.

Wow, that’s deep. Glad you understand how important the acoustics of the room are in relation to the system components.

Has there been progress on constructing a diffuser for the room? I can hardly wait to get the next phase of my acoustic treatment constructed and installed.

UGH! I still can't identify with this thread. I thought I would be able to identify with just one small part at one point or another but it hasn't happened yet. I feel irrelevant and left out. :(

Over-hyped products are a big trap for the crazy audiophile. You see all these glowing reviews on (insert your product here), buy one, wait like a kid on Christmas eve for it to arrive, plug it up and....it's....wait for it......wait....just "ok."

It gets worse, Steve -- how about when you know beforehand that it was gonna sound mediocre, but you bought it anyway, then get mad when the component met your expectations.
