Subwoofer capable of 19Hz tone...
I am looking for a subwoofer for a specific purpose for an experiment.
It needs to be able to reproduce (cleanly) a continuous 19Hz tone at a faily good level. 100Watts or higher RMS.
The problem is that frequency is below what I can hear. Presumably it is below what any of us can hear, so I can't simply listen to it and see if it's doing what it should be.
Given the experts on this forum, I thought that someone might be able to suggest a speaker that would be up for this task.
I don't care about ANY other specs for my purposes. Only that particular frequency.
Obviously, I would like to find the most cost-effective alternative that does the job well.
Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forums.
What is your budget? Also, what is the reason for needed to play only that one frequency?KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780 -
My budget is 2 to 3 hundred dollars, maybe a bit more if need be.
The experiments are on infrasound effects on animals VS humans. -
Welcome Bob.
What SPL do you need to reach at that frequency? Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I'm not entirely sure. Something equiviant to a fairly loud sound if it were audible. Something like 90 - 95 decebles.
I know the average stereo is played louder than that, but at that level it should be percieved above background noise levels. -

Are you going to be playing those at anechoic chamber or concrete basement? Bass that low will make audible noises if played in places where there are objects that move. On regular wood framed room it will create quite a lot of things you can either hear or feel.

This sounds interesting. Can you say more about it? -
Certain frequencies below the hearing range of people tend to have fairly consistant results, causing uneasiness, anxiety, etc. Other frequencies have different effects.
We are testing to see if these are universal qualities, or if they just apply to humans.
We haven't actually started testing yet, we need to have the apparatus capable of reproducing the sound and a reliable method of testing to see if it is working because we will not be able to hear it. -
you should give danley sound labs a call and ask to speak to tom danley
this is one of his creation

Wow, what does that thing do?
I was looking at the elemental designs link. That looks pretty good.
I will also give Danley Sound Labs a call.
Thanks! -
iirc, it was built for the same application you asked for...for the militarymy 7.(1x4) HT setup

A sound outside the spectrum audible to humans can be observed by using a microphone connected to an oscilloscope. You can observe amplitude and frequency (and the presence of unwanted infrasonic sounds).

LOL ... I suppose we all have our different hobbies I prefer to experiement to see if I can piss off my neighbors with my speakers and subwoofer ... so far it has produced fairly consistent results (them calling the cops) and generally causes them uneasiness and anxiety when I blast my music at 3:00 am on a Tuesday, I think their dog has similar feelings of uneasiness and anxiety Im pulling your leg of course.
Just make sure what ever sub manufactuer you end up going with that you tell them that they can no longer label their boxes with "No animals were harmed or annoyed in the manufacturing or testing of this Subwoofer"
Good luck.
