Hello fellow Polk fanatics!

I've just recently acquired a pair of SDA 1A's in great condition, and I can't get enough of them! Been a member over at Audiokarma for a little while now. Theres a huge body of knowledge over here and I was thinking about doing a little XO modding

I noticed candyliquor has a tweak for the sl2000 in his sig, sounds very interesting.

Greetings BK201! Welcome to the Club Polk Forums. There are a lot of folks who have done these mods. Use the search function to check out some other members who have done this mod also. You must get the new RDO soft dome tweeters. They'll make a huge difference fo you. Post some pics! Good luck!

The mod Candy does to the SL2000's certainly works wonders for him,but one or two of us happen to think that from a technical stand point it might not be a good fix.:D

Yes, I did take them with a cell phone :D

About the sl2000 tweets, I can't say I have any complaints, they sound very nice to me. But then again, maybe I don't know what I'm missing. The poly switches do need replacing though, they trip way to early.

They look to be in great shape as do those what look to be EPI 100's.

    Yep, EPI 100's

Just finished re-capping them with Dayton 1%'s and new binding posts.

Once you get into vintage audio theres no turning back

    Welcome
Do yourself a huge favor and read through many threads before deciding on what to do and who to take advice from. We have some great info. available and one or maybe two who tend to give real poor unproven advice. Use the search function to home in on the information you need and ask detailed questions.
    Have fun and good luck

I bet the reason your poly switches trip is because you are clipping your power source/over driving you receiver probabley. Just one of the things I have learned here.

I'm driving them with a Sansui AU-717 so its got plenty of power to drive them without clipping. Sometimes they are fine and sometimes they seem to randomly trip part way and not reset properly, leaving distortion until I let them sit for a while with no music playing.

Maybe you should contact Polk customer service and order two new polyswitches or bypass the existing ones and see if that clears up that problem. If you run a jumper to replace the polyswitch becareful not to over drive your AU-717 for you will have to replace the blown tweeters which should be done with RDO-194. The RDO-194's should cost you about $48. each from Polk.

There were two polyswitches per speaker, one on the stereo XO and one on the SDA XO, I assume they should both be replaced? Would it be better to use fuses (fast or slow?) or those self resetting circuit breakers? I've read that polyswitches are really bad for the audio signal.

Nice looking 1A's, later after you have had a good listen to your speakers you could carry out the mod http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70329 I posted out, you will be amazed.
