I had off this past week went to cape may and on the way home
thursday stopped at a flea market picked up a dayton plate amp
for 10.00 bucks.
Today i tagged along with the wife to some yard sales and picked
up a pair of Wharfedale sapphire SP89s for 30.00 bucks. Not knowing
anything about them they looked well built some what heavy and
nice binding post. (bi) Well i'm happy to say they sound great. I just
opened them up to check out the inside and man o man the X-over
is huge more do-dads on the board then the sub amp. You might
think i'm **** but they sound better then my RTi10s with my setup
and my music they rock. Will post some pics.
I never was one for yard sales but?

If you're not familiar with the history of that company, Google it. Great old company. That's a nice find, albeit a much more recent one of Wharfedale's offerings. You would've known right away if you found one of the old designs that allowed you to fill the walls with sand or shot.

Awesome score. Congrats. The best garage sale score so far for me was a perfect working Hafler amp for $50.00. Many records as well including a box of old Rolling Stones and a bunch of other stuff for $15.00. It contained a copy of the very first Rolling Stones album first pressing from the UK (Introducing Englands New Hit Makers: The Rolling Stones). That one alone was worth more than the box. Happy hunting!!!

I agree. They make very nice speakers at affordable prices. In fact, my surround speakers are Wharfedales. I've had them for about 3 or 4 years and I have no plans to replace them. Check out their top-of-the-line Opus floorstanders.

After some minor scores last summer I've become a garage sale junkie. Back in June it paid off big time. For $25 at one garage sale I got the following, all in perfect working condition: Pair KEF Q15's w/matching 80C center, Def Tech C-1 center w/matching BP-1 surrounds, Velodyne V-1012 sub. In July I got a mint Sansui SR-838 TT for $20.

For $30 that's a no brainer for headspace but it's not a very good series from Wharfedale for me. YMMV.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
