Hey all - I just snagged a pair of cherry Rti A5's off eBay from Polk Direct for $379. Couldn't pass them up at that price. Anyhow, as I haven't been able to demo these - can anyone tell me how these are for music? I do have a sub. They're mostly going to be used for home theatre but I do like to listen to music quite a bit as well.... Thanks for any input. Can't wait to get them!

I have a pair in cherry as well. Great sounding speaker, the highs are pretty clear until you start hitting very high volumes. I mean like the neighbors calling the cops loud. Then it will get a little harsh on the top end. Not sure how you plan to hook them up aka power source but i have mine running on a Rotel 1075.
At first i was running them on my Harmon Kardon avr247 and they sounded nice but once i hooked up the amp it was a worlds differance.
At moderate to high volumes they can basically overtake my Klipsch RW-10D sub.
They can produce that much bass with the right amount of power.
Also do yourself a favor and bi-wire them. It makes a nice noticable differance on the highs giving them a more tame sound to em.
These speakerscanreally handle their own in terms of power. I bi amped them for a bit Rotel ran the mids/bass and the HK ran the highs. They can take everything i can give em.
So i just ordered a Rotel 1050 so i can biamp em using Rotel units all around. Plan to let the 1075 run mids/bass and the 1050 handle the highs.
I think so long as you give em some power you will be really happy.
At first i liked em but the HK alone didn't give em the power they needed so the high end was a little harsh and the bass was lacking big time.
Juice em up and they really come alive.
Sound great on music and pretty good on movies as well.
    Good luck to you.

Thanks for the response TOE! I will be running them off just the Onkyo for now. A power amp is hopefully in the near future. At least now I know that an amp will make a big difference with these fellas. Should I bi-wire them to the Onkyo anyway?

Does that mean you'll be selling your A3s???? ;)

Curious folks would like to know!

Lol! I really don't want to....they're so pretty in cherry :p. But I'm not sure I'll have the room to keep them. It's something I'll have to consider certainly. But I'll post here if I do decide to sell.

Okay TOE you got me excitedly looking at power amps for the A5's! The Rotel 1075 is a little out of my budget right now, is there anything a little less costly that you or anyone else can recommend? I'm also thinking of upgrading my Polk sub with an SVS PB10-NSD sub - but I listen to a lot of music so I may go with a Velodyne. If it helps - the room is 17 x 15 with an 8 foot ceiling. Thanks for any suggestions. Also - I'm running an Onkyo 705.

Touch is right on here. They sound real nice with an AVR, but REALLY come alive when you give them some power. You can try to bi-wire them, although I don't know how much of a difference it will make with the Onkyo...

No need to bi-amp the RTI a5's. Very easy speaker to push and the tweeter doesn't need a lot of power.

Amp vs Receiver your going to get better bass response. At low to mid volume you may not even notice a difference. Mid to high is when you will truely see the A5's shine on a amp.

I wouldn't consider them a music speaker but more of a great HT speaker for the price.

Keep a look out for B&K AV5000II on Audiogon. They come up occasionally there and will be plenty of power for those speakers.
