Living Room - PICS (PHANTOM)

This is a pic of the living room....I'll be installing my new TV tonight above the fireplace. Sure does open the room up when set up like this. Before I had a 52" rear projection :D

Couch is about 10 feet away from front of fireplace. I plan on toe the right side in a tad more. I just couldn't because the cabinet isn't pushed all the way back. Should I push the couch back for more space? Do the speaker positions look alright?

I tried my AVR in Phantom mode - my wife LOVED it. I thought it sounded better but had some concerns - voice dialog tended to be real soft....background noise and explosions, etc tended to be real loud.

Thoughts?

That right main speak is gonna have some serious bass, that's for sure. Is there anyway to position the rack next to the fireplace, then spread the mains out?

Graphics-man, I'm not, but take a look at my idea for placement...

I thought about that - I was thinking about putting room treatments behind it.

Take a look at my first post--I did some cut/paste on your photo. Would this placement work?

Absolutely....I just didn't know if the speakers were spaced too far apart.

They are a little wide, but you can use more toe-in if your centerstage gets a "hole" in it.

For asthetic reasons alone I would have suggested moving the cabinet from the right side of the fireplace over to the left.

yep, boxing that right speaker in like that would have produced some serious boomy bass, and the vibration wouldn't have been good for the source components.

    Yup...I have 4 center channels :D

But I'm actually liking Phantom right now. Might just leave it as a 2-channel

Drill a stand into the brick on the fireplace.....like a brace and a shelf for the csi5.

Also put that base in the corner for more reflection.

You could always remove the stand and put some mortor back in to patch it up.

Or buy another piece of lumber from home depot and remake the mantel to hold the center. A little stain and shelack with steel wool and your back!

I was actually thinking about lowering the TV down to the mantle, and hanging the CSi5 above the TV slanting down.....

Will that sound ok? I've never seen or heard a center channel that high up....

Do you mind drilling four holes in the top of the mantle. If not go to menards or Home Depot and get two(1" x 12" x 1/8") pieces of metal and screw it to the top of the mantle 1 foot apart with 6 inches hanging over the edge.

Hope I explained it right. I used this method when I put my LSI 9's on my mantle/fireplace.

Don't laugh at my paper template. Hope this helps

Talked to the wife about using the CSi5 and her exact words were, "that speaker is too f#*#%n big!!" She insists that we should use the Bose because it "looks the best." I told her it sounds like crap with my setup and told her I refused to use it. I gave HER an alternative ;) - CSi3

She said, "FINE!! Just get it then and be done with it." So I think it's a done deal. I know it proably won't sound as good as my CSi5 and CS400, but I listen to a lot of 2-channel anyways.

I appreciate the help and am going to have to settle.....

It's been a while since I got everything into place.....I had to rearrange a few times with sub placement, speaker placement and electronics.

Let me know what you think......

FYI - that center is not even hooked up - going to be buying a CSi3 or CSiA4 this week. It's there to hide the wires....

I have to say I'm not a big fan of above fireplace mounts, especially when that puts the TV inches away from ceiling height. Have you found that to be an issue at all when you're on the couch watching tv? Typically brief or long watching periods? I'd think that you'd have neck discomfort issues with it that high...........no?

I was actually not a fan at first....but I'm getting used to it.

I will be able to lower it when I get the CSi3 about 3 inches. I was also thinking about mounting it above the TV and bringing the TV down to the mantle.

Is it normal to have the sub pointed towards the listening area like that? Or is it a better idea to have the sub symmetrical with the side and back walls?

Also, your sig doesn't say it, but those look like RTi 10s...I just hooked up a pair last night :)

It depends on the room. I played around with it for a while and found that this works best for me. When I had it perfectly square in the corner, I was getting a lot of boominess in the king's seat. I like the balance now.

    Nope....just RTi8's.
