Polk EX-369 Speakers

I just bought a new 2002 Mazda Millenia. I'm a big fan of Polk's home speaker systems and I would like to replace the rear Pioneer speakers that came in the car with the Polk EX-369's.

My questions are: 1) Will they fit? The Pioneers are 6x9. 2) Do I need to install an amp to push them? If so, how much power to get a decent amount of response from these speakers?

I'll still use the factory system...the Pioneers just sound horrible in the back.

a six by nine is a six by nine -- so the new speaker will fit in the stock hole....but what u need to find out is depth -- if the polk is deeper than the pioneer, then it wont...

www.polkaudio.com/car will have the depth of the EX III 6x9 listed... you may also want to look at the old EX II on ebay -- they can be had dirt cheap -- like 30 bucks for a pair brand new. again, polk's site should have the depth of the ex ii listed as well... if not -- search google.com for "polk EXII 6x9 specifications".

whatever u do, just try to pick a speaker that has a high sensitivity rating -- you're going to be using facotyr deck power so that's probably onlike like 15 - 20 watts at most. so you need rear coaxials that are very sensitive (90 db's or better.... ideally 93 or better).

I purchased a pair of EX369's today and am greatly displeased with their performance. With a JVC KAMELEON receiver, also new, a great deal of "garble" and distortion appears to come from the speakers. Even at low volumes, the speakers have difficulty with even upper bass signals. I am returning them today.

reed --- chances are, it's not the speakers that are at fault... it could be weak deck power or, much more likely, the quality of hte speaker wire -- if you're usuing original factory wiring, you may need to upgrade to some good quality 18 gauge wire (streetwires / monster cable / etc etc)... the EXII's had --some-- of hte problems you speak of, but none of the sets of EXIII ive heard off deck power or amps have had the trouble you speak of. they're good speakers... work with them a bit before u give up on them.
