Where to buy a pair of RTI12 speakers

Hi guys

I have been reading these forums for a few days now and am putting together a new HT. I would like to buy a pair of RTI12 speakers as my front speakers & I would like to take advantage of the discounts going on right now for these (approximately 400 bucks for each at amazon/JR).
Is that a good deal?

However, the shipping charge seems to be sky-high. So I am wondering if you guys have any advice on how I can avoid such high shipping costs or is there a different retailer/store you would suggest

Thanks
RV

PS : I live in the NY metropolitan area and work in manhattan

Welcome to the Forum fellow brain-gnosher.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

With that price you will spend ~ 1000 for a pair of RTI12. I would buy a pair of LSi9 instead of RTI12. The LSi series sound much better than RTi series.
Good luck with your speakers hunting.

Theirs some RTI 10 on POLKS Ebay store ending soon. Can be had for about $500.
also polk RTI a7's in polks ebay store go for around $500 and you'll have money left over for a decent sub.

Are you open to any other Polk speakers besides The 12's ? The 10's may pair better with your csi 3

Thanks leroyjr1 for the tip on eBay. Yes, I am open to other Polk speakers. Wanted to get the RTI12 simply cause I didn't want to upgrade too often.

And thanks for the welcome "zombie boy 2000"

I would look around ebay for sure. I got alot of stuff from ebay. For instance i got my RTI A5's for 212.xx shipped to my door brand new. Just looked around till i found a auction with no bids and little time left and won them at 189.xx plus the shipping.
What kind of power do you plan to push the speakers with?
I'm running mine on a rotel 1075 and plan to bi amp them to get the most from them. Basically these speakers can be feed alot of power no problem so unless you plan on really dishing out the juice i woudn't worry about the 12's as much IMO.
Like said above Polks ebay store a good place to look for some really good deals on great speakers.

welcome aboard. J&R has the Rti12s youre looking for as posted in another thread. Keep in mind you'll also want to invest in a power to get them to sing like they should, but that can be purchased later. You'll love the 12s and they will hold you for a long time.

Anytime you're shipping around 100 pounds of speaker in a big **** box, you're gonna pay some coin on shipping. Even with the shipping costs on that JR deal, they're priced really well IMO.......

Thanks brettw22, leroyjr1, Sherardp, Curved and TouchofEvil for taking the time.

Yeah right now, I am not sure about the amps to use. I am building the HT in stages rather than in big-bang fashion. I plan to read more and revisit the power question later.

Thanks Curved for the link on ebay. That sounds like a really good deal. Very very tempting.
So next question: I see that it is sold although it is sold by PolkDirect, it is marked as "refurbished". Do any of you guys have experience buying refurbished electronics online?
I presume that it is PolkDirect being the seller and the warranty is still valid makes a significant difference but I am curious.

Basically, would I live to regret buying "refurbished"?
    :-)

    -Thanks

I bought some Rti A 5's and RTI A 1's from Polk direct and they arrived and I thought they were brand new. Still had the new smell. If its from Polk you don' t have to worry.
