need help with new home setup

just purchased a home. it is a very open floor plan and very high ceilings. I will be mounting a 52 inch samsung lcd over fireplace with tilt.

as far as speakers are concerned. I would like to go with the polk Rti10 floors for the front with a 12 inch sub. I'm guessing the floor standing speakers are almost required to fill the room with sound.

my problem lies with the rears and center channel. there wont be much room under the tv to fit a "full size" center and i dont think my wife will go for the rears that "match" the floor standing speakers.

so here is my question. is it at all a problem to use the floor standing speakers with polk satellites for the rear and the RM center? thanks for any advice/help

    Welcome to Club Polk.
    With a room that size you may want to make sure that you have a powerful sub. The RTI10's are great HT speakers, and using smaller RTI's in the back will be fine. However you will want an RTI center for sure with a nice setup like that. Hang out a little, and learn before you jump into buying something.

    Can you? Yes. Will they sound good together. Not really. Its called voice matching, and if you mix different types of speakers it will not sound natural.

    Thanks again Ben. This is what I thought. Hmmm...well, would you assume that a polk HTIB system not be appropriate for a large open room with high ceilings?

    Also, now that I've been looking over the sight tonight I'm wondering if I may be better off with the RTiA5 speakers and I wondered if they are a significant improvement over the RTi...I saw them at tweeter today and loved the curved design
