I absolutely love this game. I'm talking about the first KI on the Arcade. The SNES version was complete crap compared to the arcade. I purchased an N64 because Nintendo promised it would bring an arcade perfect port on it. They never did. Then KI2 came out. I liked it but not as much as the original.

I used to go to the arcade with my friend when we were kids and spend hours and hours playing it. No matter what, I just couldn't get enough of it. No other fighter that came out after KI was even close IMO. Everything about the original was so perfect. The characters, graphics, sound, etc.

I did some searching and found a U64 Emulator that emulates the original arcade version PERFECTLY. I am HOOKED again. I've been playing a few hours a night for the past 3 weeks since I downloaded it. Gotta keep trying to get as many hits as possible on the combos and perfecting my skills. I love this game!

I thought I'd post this because there seems to be a cult following for KI.

If you want to download the emultor, click on the second link. Even though it says that it's for Windows Vista, it will work on XP. The first link doesn't work.

Isn't this the game that introduced 50+ combos? Ridiculous.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

It was a favorite game of mine for a long time. Not the first fighter game, but was a great improvement on that game style.

    Hey Audiobliss,
Good to see you man. How's everything? Get any new toys for the rig? Been pretty busy the past few years. Things are back to normal now:). Hope you're doing great.

Good to see some KI fans in here.

    vfx,
Yeah, I got the soundtrack with mine too. My friend got the soundtrack and a Spinal shirt. Very cool.

    Zombie boy,
Believe it or not, some people are pulling off 80+ hit combos. My best is 47 hit Ultra with Orchid.

    Zingo,
Thanks for sharing the pic. Gotta love Cinders stage. It's amazing how the screen zooms out as you knock your opponent in the air and it zooms back in as they fall.

Anybody have a favorite character or stage?

My fav characters are Orchid and Sabrewulf. Fav stage is Chief Thunder's.

If you loved the ARCADE version, why not play the ARCADE version in your own home?

MAME...the second favorite love of mine next to home theater and audio. Nothing like having an arcade cabinet with almost 8000 arcade games on it dating back to the 70's!

    Ethancf,
I am playing the arcade version but on PC. No room for an arcade cabinet.

    Ben,
Try the link Ethan posted or check out youtube. There are instructions on there for gettting the emulator and roms for your PC.

I did check out his link, and saw the mame, but not many games. I get nervous when downloading free stuff. Sometimes the "extras" kill you:(
    Thanks

Did you try googling the games? Can't say I've ever had problems downloading, but I've only tried a few games.
I you enjoyed the 16 bit SNES days, there's a nice emulator called ZNES. Those were the golden days of video games for me.

downloaded been playing for a few days. highest hit combo I can get is 42 with sabrewolf, love this game brings back some good memorys. I was reading on wikipedia the coin-op ran at a resolution of 320x240 im running the emulator at 1280x1024 but looks much more pixelated than the coin-op from what I remember. My guess is the coin-op used hardware rendering and the emulator is software rendering.

    Greg,
That's awesome. Sabrewulf is a great character.

Try messing around with your resolution. I also have mine at 1280x1024 but have no pixalation problem. My friend is having the same problem you described and fixed it by turning on the scan lines. I have the "scan lines" turned off. If you're having pixalation problems, you might want to try turning it on.

Yeah, I really am doing great. Enjoying the college life so far! :) The rig's pretty stagnant, and seeing as how I'm not using it any (since I'm no longer at home), I'll probably be selling most of it off. But, I still enjoy music, which is, after all, the heart of this hobby, right?

Glad to hear things are back to normal for you. Here's hoping that's how they'll stay for a while!

For you MAME LCD monitor users, try running MAME at 800x600 @ 60hz with scanlines enabled. Depending on your frontend, be sure to enable the ability to change resolution and triple buffer may even help. For an LCD this will help recreate the low resolutions of the old Wells Gardner Arcade monitors. Of course you wouldn't want to use these settings for vector based games such as Asteroids, Tempest, Battle Zone, Major Havoc, and the like. They look terrible with scanlines.

To get your arcade juices flowin, the X-Arcade Tankstick can be had for about 199 bucks these days and it connects to your PC. Pretty fun to recreate the old arcade days...even has a track ball for Centipede, etc, and flippers for the pinball emulators...oh yeah, perfect recreations of pinball favorites like Funhouse, Addam's Family, Attack From Mars, etc are also available through the Visual Pinball/PinMAME emulators:
