Just erase the touch-ups-- No seriously, I'm not a painter, but I have painted quite a few rooms in several houses (Oh did I mention that I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express? ;) ). Honestly don't think there is anything you can do but paint the full wall of the areas you've touched up. I've always heard you can only touch up an area for for so long after its painted ( a few months or something) before it will start to be noticeable. Obviously less noticeable with flat paints.

I suppose you could get the paint matched to the old color better and redo the touchups??

    Good luck

Paint is a very touchy thing. I"m guessing this is interior? Even if you're using the original paint, the stuff on the walls could have been sun bleached over time, or could have darkened. Either way.
If you mix a few squirts of brown tint in blind- a typical Tim the Toolman guy-thing- it is likely to leave you in worse shape.

If you can peel off a little swatch from somewhere, take it in with the paint you've got, and get the paint store to tint it up to match, you might make it. And yeah, a year later, it may have aged to where it's noticeable again.

You guys are depressing beyond believe excuse me as I try to drown myself in my pool as I need to end it all....

This is outside paint for the outside of house and I touched up all over the place. As I know of areas which where not painted so original paint could be seen. I know I can get away with a wall or two, but we talking the whole house or a least 60% of it. I had this problem a year ago on my porch which is by my pool the touch up area was lighter a painter said just paint it again (can that be right?) I ended painting a wall or two which seemed to be problem areas, but other areas on porch where ok. I thought this issue was due to the pool and perhaps water moisture on the wall causing it to dry different but now I see it in other areas outside of pool area.

This is why a professional painter would come in handy. Steve, at this point I would recommend getting a pressure washer and cleaning the house. Though it may not be perfect.....it won't be so bad.

If that doesn't work to your satisfacion, stir the paint before application with just a hint or more of thinner before you touch up again using a thin layer(s) of paint. Stirring is key. If that doesn't work, then next time let me know before you do something like this.

The interior of a house is bad enough. Add the elements and............well, not a good scenario when it comes to paint. ;)

    Tom,

I didn't state this but I did pressure washed house yesterday or the day before the touch up paint. What do you mean about thinning it's a latex paint. I know of a pro painter who works for Disney he's off tomorrow who I asked my wife for him to call me Tuesday when he's on. Or if I pushed hard enough I know she knows his number. I wish to fix it with out his help, but I didn't what to make it worse at this point.

Thinning the paint will reduce the PPM and the hide of the paint. My guess is that your paint color [existing] is lighter than that of the touch up areas. Try expanding the areas, fading into the old with what you have panted as new.

To be right, it may have to have another good coat applied. More than likely this will be the case but let's try to make the best of it for now. When was the house last painted?

The house was painted like 2 years ago, using Glidden Exterior 100% Acrylic Latex Satin. The house color is darker then the touch up area's using the same paint which are lighter.

Two year old paint in Florida sun. What were you thinking? Sorry Steve you are going to have to give the whole house a fresh coat. You can play around with if you like, but it will be lots of wasted time, and aggravation. The good thing is if you keep the same color you can blow it out real quick. Easy coverage, and cutting in won't be as critical. Wish I were closer:(

Good luck most paints don't touch up to begin with because the sheen causes it to look differant most of the time. Not to mention exterior thats two years old...more than likely not gonna happen.

Maybe you could do some kind of faux painting. You know something to add 'texture' but not require you to repaint every square inch. Just a thought.

Can you shoot me some pics? I used to spray 2 story 8 unit condos 2 coats in a day with 4-5 guys covering things ahead of me. I am sure we could blow it out in a day real nice, and clean. I fully cover the windows, and doors so there would be no cutting in, or overspray;)

Much faster to just blow it out. No big deal if he has access to ladders that can get a little overspray on them.

Actually I think flats fade faster, but cover sins better. Anything outdoors is going to fade. All the pollution, and sun there:( Not very good for paint.

I feel for ya. Not the first time I have seen spotted houses. You innocently start in a spot, and work all the way around the house. By the time you get back to where you started its too late. BTW the pics I am more interested in the whole house, and not what needs to be fixed;) One of my favs was a house where someone got the idea to use great stuff expanding foam to insulate their old farm house. Well it expanded, and pushed the clapboard siding out. Then the foam ran down the exterior of the house. I always wondered what the walls looked like on the inside. You would think they would have bowed:confused: I wish I had a pic of that one. The whole second story face of the house:eek:

Ya, this actually reminds me of something similar I did. I had a rental property down the shore, I went down off season to clean it up and noticed lots of marks on the hallway walls. I don't remember if the walls were flat, or satin or what, but I found that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked like a miracle at getting the marks off. I didn't realize it until I finshed and after the spots had dried, that I fudged the finish. Either they were shinier on a flat wall, or duller on a satin wall. I actually might not remember because its quite possible that I did it in two separate houses one of each finish. :o

I ended up repainting the entire hallway. :(

You can maybe have some fun with this. Price what having a pro doing it would be, then rent an airless, or think about buying a cheapo in the $750 range- look for sales. Using an airless, that's a fun guy thing.
If you have a buddy that's ever painted before, promise whatever it takes, you'll be the helper, he or she will be the painter. Build a couple of overspray shields out of 1/4" plywood and a 1x an git 'r done.
You'll knock it out in a day, 2 coats. Get enough to do 2 coats.

My sister is a pro in the Dallas area, she's been painting houses since '80, teaches faux technique in classes. I'm not as good as her, but she taught me enough.

oh, and just use brushes for smoothing and close areas.

What paint did you use? Leftover or a new gallon?

If leftover, is any of it settled out in the bottom of the can?

      Kevin,

You got me thinking, it's a leftover 5 gallon paint can with about 2.5 gallons +. It's a normal Glidden color so maybe this paint isn't stirred correctly or you're right theres some
      settle on the bottom.

So I going to the HD to get the paint stirred up to see it the paint is the same as the demo paint card or is it lighter. Maybe I need a new gallon, this paint as done it before to me as I needed to repaint the porch walls.

Yes. When paint sits in the can/bucket for long periods of time the pigment settles to the bottom. It will always need to be stirred up. Don't add any paint thinner to latex paint - water only if needed. Good luck.

p.s. just get a big stick and stir the stuff up making sure to scrape the bottom. you don't need to take it to the store.
