My daughter has a Sandisk Sansa E250 and until recently Napster. She says now that we no longer have Napster that she can no longer listen to her music. Is this right? I have no clue.:(

I think they're a subscription service and if so, you can only listen to the mp3s if you maintain the subscription. They are "leased", not bought.

Same thing happens to me. Whenever I have to reformat, even if I back up my music on a second drive, when I lose the napster program from my system, I also lose the rights to play those songs.

When I ever did buy an MP3 (such as from iTunes or somewhere). That restricted me to only playing on 3 devices or whatever, I just burned the thing to a CD (which I was allowed to to 3 times), and then walaa-instant DRM removal- nothing illegal about it. Then you just rerip the CD. I never shared my re-ripped mp3s, so I stayed true to the intent of DRM-preventing paying customers from sharing music.

Again it all depends on the subscription fine print-I personally would never buy from any place that has a requirement to continue a subscription in order to maintain my listening priveldges (I'm strictly talking about MP3s here, not Cable, Music Choice, or satelite services). It would be cheaper in the long run to purchase the CD and have it for life with no imposed restrictions.
This may actually be why Sony is getting hotter on SACD lately-no cracks yet (that I know of) for SACD. ;)

Uh yeah, a long time ago-before the Napster/Metallica wars?

I did google but I trust the members of the forum. There is a vast knowledge here that I like to tap now and again.

He suggested googling for the info because what he is hinting at we are not permitted to discuss on these forums.
