I should eat McDonalds every day for a few years then sue them because I became a fat slob.

so simple math would say.. he ate approx 27,375 bags of popcorn

    365 days a years
    5 bags per day
X 15 yrs. = 27, 375 bags of microwave popcorn. sick, hell yeah.. surprised he's not dead already.

Actually, if this is what I think it is, it's not the fact he ate it. It has to do with inhaling the fumes from the cooking process. Seems they are bad for you and they know it. Their workers wear respirators when working around the chemicals.

Still, that's what he gets for being lazy. Just light the stove top and pop your own damn corn (or get a hot air popper). Then put some real melted butter on it. Doesn't take a genius to know that anything made out of chemicals and cooked in a microwave can't be good for you.

I always hated the smell of mircowave popcorn. Nothing like the old fashioned way cooked in oil in a pot.

They know it's not good for you in LARGE QUANTITIES THAT NO HUMANS SHOULD ENCOUNTER, aside from factory workers. Inhaling any foreign substance is not good for you in quantity.

This guy, among many many others like him, should walk into court on his appointed day, and be thrown in jail or fined HEAVILY. Ridiculous laws are made every day under the guise of "saving Americans money." Seat belt laws because accidents without seatbelts "cost society money." Etc etc. Well here's something that REALLY, LITERALLY costs Americans MILLIONS a year - ridiculous court cases. Frivolous lawsuits filed by people who are either too stupid to be allowed to have money, or just dishonest scumbags looking to cash in. Make frivolous lawsuits a criminal offense, and start levying LARGE fines or jail time for wasting the court's time and money.

He shouldn't be entitled to anything unless they can prove beyond a doubt that his illness is directly the result of something toxic in the popcorn and they knew about it. At that point, he should only get his medical bills and cost of living covered.

I never knew microwave popcorn fumes were toxic until recently. They've known it much longer and chose not to warn consumers. That makes it their responsibility up to the point the general population is informed. After that, it's up to the consumer to keep eating it or not at their own risk.

i think if a person consumes that much of anything.. esp if it was zapped in the microwave, it can't be good for you. he's probably got radiation poisoning too or something more serious than that.

I can't believe this microwave popcorn story is back again.

This story came out like a year ago. Factory workers were getting sick cuz they were spending 8-12 hours a day inhaling large quantities of this stuff. News agencies wet thier pants that they had a nice juicy story to frighten people with, and they took that ball and ran with it.

Look at an ingredients list for any processed food item in your house. How many of those ingredients that you can't pronounce do you think would be toxic if you breathed them in in large quantities? I'm guessing somewhere around a HUNDRED PERCENT. Do we need a warning label on every single piece of it? Effing water is toxic if you overuse it. No, really. Grilling meats supposedly give you cancer, do we need a warning label on every barbecue grille? Should Weber and CharBroil be put out of business for deceiving their customers? Do they owe use all "compensation?"

In the quantities that every person who is not the overly obese piece of crap mentioned in the above article, microwave popcorn is about as toxic as a banana. THis guy doesn't deserve compensation for anything, except maybe some help for his mental illness of eating five freakin bags of popcorn a day. He deserves to get sick from being a moronic fatso. And I LOVE to see him paying for his stupidity.

You totally miss the point. A majority of people think that the only thing that comes out of the bag when they open it is steam and popcorn. You might think you know enough to figure out what is good and bad for YOU, but you can't assume to know what everyone else knows or doesn't know. Or how much they can safely have before it's toxic.

How am I missing the point? THe ingredients are printed on every bag. It's not a food company's responsibility to tell people what's good and bad for them. It's not McDonalds' responsibility to tell people their food makes them fat. And it's not the popcorn manufacturer's responsibility to tell the customer that eating five bags a day might make them sick. We have an FDA in this country, if the chemical that this whole story was about could be proven to make the consumer sick, the product would not be on the shelves. The "toxicity" was from factory workers inhaling the chemical in bulk, not from the end product. THe only reason the person in this lawsuit is sick is because he is a glutton, which has nothing to do with what product he decided to use to indulge his gluttony.

I know you're from California, and therefore don't think individuals are ever to blame for their own actions, so I'll cut you a break.
