face, the 10's don't have a base like that
Since when did SDA's come with Peerless tweets? ;)

Plus, they're about a 1' too short to be 2A's or 2B's. I edited my post, they're Monitor 11's, just with a funky base.

c_corie, look at the back of the speaker. One the binding post cup(speaker terminals) there be a tag with some numbers on it. What are the first three numbers/letters?

I forgot to tell you guys i got them for...............

$19 at the goodwill store! Amazing right. They're a little gross not just on the tweeters so maybe a damp cloth would work, and some windex type stuff on the cabinets.

So I'm going to hook them up tomorrow, and can't wait to hear them. Any idea what i should clean them with though as they are a little scummy?

Also any tips on placement or anything, and also i read stuff about the 8 or 10 inch speaker being a passive radiator? So only the 6 1/2s are doing the work?

You can clean the cloth with plain water and a soft scrub brush. The drivers look fine. Use a little Windex on the metal part of the tweeter. Do NOT touch the tweeter dome with anything.

The Polk speaker is a sealed cabinet. The moving drivers creat the air motion that "radiates" the big passive radiator. Toe them in a little to image them properly. Tell us how they sound. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk!

If they sound boomy, throw them on some short stands.

    These are worth nothing.

Pack them up and send them to me, I will dispose of them properly.

My memory is foggy but I though the original 10's had a base like that at one time.

They aren't SDA's of any generation and I though Monitor 11's came a bit later. Hard to tell with the goofy angles the pics were taken with. Is there a label of any kind on the back of either speaker?

you should be able to find some fuses for your new speakers.. more than likely your tweeters will work again once you get the fuses replaced.

I too think they are Monitor 11's. somewhat rare. Value? is anybody's guess.. they are worth more then $19 I can tell you that. I would place their value in the neighborhood of $150 to $225.

I'd keep em though if I were you. :D

it appears to be some kind of oxidation.. try some soap and water on the metal part of the tweeter.. but really in all honesty.. it's not that bad. they appear to be pretty dang clean to me. no rust on the tweeter or tweeter screws, that's very common. I would say try some mild soap and water if that doesn't work.. I wouldn't try anything to harsh on them.. i'd just leave it alone. keep the grills on and no one will ever see it. ;)

if they sound good, I don't usually worry too much about cosmetics. they are old and are supposed to have some wear and tear on them. just like on antiques road show. something that has been refinished can be worth half as much as something original and untouched.

I would just clean the speakers themselves. But these look pretty clean over all. And they have Peerless tweeters.

The oxidation would come off easy if you use a little WD40 on a rag and wipe carefully. Don't touch the dome of the tweeter or the surrounds on the mids or PR.

    Nice set of speakers.

So they sound good but I have anothe question. They are marked right and left channel on the back, any idea why? Did some one do this or are they L/R specific? Also one seems slightly louder then the other, but my room is not set up that great, and you can not really sit in the "true" middle of the speakersm, any thoughts?

if they are monitors.. which those are..... then don't worry about it being marked left or right.. show us a picture of the entire speaker terminals on the back of one of the speakers.. I am just curious to see it.. as mentioned, we don't see monitor 11's very often in here.

if one of your speakers is lower volume than the other.. chances are that one of your mid bass drivers isn't working. since there are two.. it may be difficult to tell some times while listening to music.

without playing any music.. gently push on the driver, but not the cone part of it.. see if there is any scratchyness to it.. do this for all four drivers. other than that.. I would try one speaker at a time. and unplug one of the wires on the driver and see if the other one is working.. then reverse it.. and try it again.

There is some scratchyness on all 4 drives, also do each of the 2 drivers (per speaker) cover the same range, or is one set to do lower bass? It almost seems like 1 tweeters is quieter/slightly more muffeled sp? then the other.

ALSO- i just moved the right speaker to the left and left to right, and one is def a little louder then the other.

I can hear slightly better in my left ear, so im putting the louder speaker on the right to even that out (i played guitar through loud amps, with the right ear facing them since i was 10, im 23 now:o( ) ANYWAY is there truly no "left or right" speaker for the monitor 11s? Also i looked on the back, serial number starts with 11 then a space, so i'm thinking they really are 11s

EDIT: I think they sound different now that they are switched in position, am i nuts? Or is one midbass crossed over higher, hence when switched the speakers seem slightly smaller soundin, cause the higher midbass is closer to the listener?
