Sticky Speakers

Anyone know how to remove the stickiness from the speakers? I guess after many years, the adhesive that bonds the veneer to the cabinet works it's way through to the surface. I tried alcohol, only with marginal success.

Many speakers are sticky from the factory. If that is the case you should leave them alone. They are dust collectors for sure...

Goo off would work. Or any non abrasive citrus sticker removers. Good Luck.

None of that stuff works, and if it does, the next day the stick is back. EPI 100's I believe were sticky when they left the factory. Great little speakers but I've yet to find a pair that doesn't have that **** all over the cabs.

    No he's not.

Since you say veneer, I'll assume you are talking about real wood veneer and not a vinyl covering. It's not the glue coming to the surface, it's the finish applied to the veneer that has become sticky. This can happen for a number of reasons, old wax and/or polish being but one. If it is just a build up of gunk, wipe them down with paint thinner. If that doesn't work, then the finish is past it's lifespan and the cabinets will need refinishing.

Actually, F1nut, I misspoke. It is a vinyl covering and not a wood veneer. Any thoughts on eliminating the stickiness? Thanks.

I'm much less familiar with the properties of vinyl coverings, but Fantastic cleaner is pretty good at removing grime and junk from a host of plastic based products, so I'd try that. I seriously doubt that the adhesive has bled thru.
