I bought her "Worrisome Heart"; pretty good.

Found out a little more about her; pretty amazing what she went through and how music helped her:

"Gardot was cycling in Philadelphia in November 2003 when she was hit by a Jeep Cherokee that ignored a red traffic light. In the accident she suffered serious head injuries. Her pelvis was shattered in two places and spinal injuries meant she was in hospital on her back for a year. She had to re-learn how to do simple things such as brushing her teeth and walking and to this day she needs a cane to walk and, when performing, she sits on a special chair (or stands). Besides that, she also became sensitive to both light and sound and has to wear dark glasses. The accident also resulted in both long and short term memory problems and difficulty with her sense of time. Gardot has described coping with this as like 'climbing Mount Everest every day' as she often wakes with no memory of what she has to do that day.

After her accident Gardot began writing music and since then often speaks and advocates in favour of using music for therapy. The accident had damaged the neural pathways between the brain's two cortexes which control perception and higher mental function and made Gardot (in her own words) "a bit of a vegetable."[8] As well as making it very hard for her to speak or communicate properly, she found it difficult to recall the right words to express her feelings. Music involving listening and making a verbal attempt to sing or hum is thought to help the brain form new pathways. At first, Gardot learned to hum and was eventually able to sing into a tape recorder. She made good progress and was eventually able to write original songs that sometimes talked about her rehabilitation."

Just heard about this gem today. What a voice. Much more pleasant to listen to than Norah IMO. Like the hint of Fiona Apple in her voice too.

Will definitely be picking up her albums on vinyl. Can't wait!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm currently listening to My One and Only Thrill. Great, great voice. Music is pretty good. Her version of Over the Rainbow is fun but I'm smitten with Jane Monheit's version. More French songs s'il vous pla

Madeleine Peyroux has a couple in French :)

I just can't quite get into her music but to be fair I've only done a quick sample off of someone else's cd. I'll give her material another try.

I'm not a big fan of music videos, but that one is pretty cool. Well done.

I got into her music about a month ago when I purchased her "My One and Only Thrill" CD. I really like it. Great recording, great voice and music. Norah Jones fans should definitely check her out.

I just got my copy of My one and only... Wow, this is really good! She's got an amazing voice and it is well recorded too.

Ricardo- A big thanks! If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have known about her.
