What kind of music did you gear your rig to?

Just curious, because Ive always read that folks think their speakers make rock music sound incredibly bad due to the recording....

I guess since rock is my main listening preference I kind of build my system around it. I am listening to Marylyn Manson right now and the recording sounds pretty awesome. I can not complain.

Very tight, very dynamic, good seperation, not very bright --- very clear...

Not top notch, but I can rock out to it?

What do you gear your 2 ch rig to?

I listen to all kinds of music.But prefer classic rock and pop.Of course pre 1995 CDs pretty much suck in sound recording.At least thats the experience Ive had with the few older CDs Ive purchased.I got a eagles greatest hits CD(remastered) and although the highs were OK the bass was boomy/sloppy.Hell freezes over isnt to bad though.

As for MM -- I like listening to it because it gets the adrenaline pumping, very good "rocking out" CD and nothing more..

My system is for rock.

I am duplicating my system from 1976 that I had in Okinawa. I am also adding allot more to it.

I just recorded the Talking Heads. I had just recieved there live Stop Making Sense LP. One of the best rock live albums I have heard.

I recorded to a AMD 4800 X2 computer system with a Audigy 2 Platinum sound card and Sonys Sound Forge using a Pioneer PL-518 with a Stanton 681A cartdridge. I modified the TT with some Monster audio interconnects as well.

I then copied over the recorded LP to my editing machine a AMD 6400 X2 8 Gig ram system using Sound Forge for editing all the cuts. I need some power to do the EQ volume editing as well as cutting out any pops and clicks.

Now mind you this was not recorded as a MP3 it was recorded as a Wav file and also not at a sample rate of 44.1Khz. I use 96Khz and 24bit much better sound!

I need to put up some pics of my man cave.

What I do need is a set of monitors for the editing machine. I have a spare Sony amp that I can tie into from the computer. Just gots find that right set of monitors so I dont have to keep running in and out to listen to the recording in my truck.

Im listening to Blue October now -- and it is an incredibly sweet listening experience. The tubes I got my Candela a while back are far clearer, but they dont have quite the center prescence of the stock tubes.

They sound fantastic with jazz -- jazz is a piece of cake to reproduce from what Ive played. Very technical, very good recordings, great top end - Very enjoyable to listen to across the board.

I would say they are fair at classical - but I dont listen to alot of classical. My only real classical is a japanese classical CD and it does O.K.

IMO the BP10B sound excellent with classical. How would the Taylos compare?

The BP10B is a great speaker, was a labor of love for me - 100% and will one day own Definitive something or another again. Most likey for my theater.

But it is not even fair to compare the Definitives to the Taylos.

One tweeter alone amounts for 1/4 the cost of the BP10B PAIR. The drivers are far higher in resolution. The midbasses are unbelieveable as far as bass response and clarity.

The 7u dosnt have that low rumble bass response, but what it does have is precision, tone, and spacious bass response. Something the BP10B only came close with in my enclosures that I built.

It is hard to explain the differences - the 7u is the best all around speaker Ive heard to date. They are fun to listen to, dynamic, spacious, clear, detailed, not enough words to describe them - that is for sure. They will be in my room for a long time. I am on to a year and a half...

Love em -- alot of their musicality has to do with the Odyssey gear as well though. That I have to admit.

I really didn't gear my rig to any type of music. It just plays what I put in the CD player. Mostly classic rock, jazz, electric blues.

I'd say my system is fairly versatile. It can tear it up with Tool and handle many of those strange mid-bass notes characteristic of the group that just resonate through lesser systems. At the same time, when listening to Keb Mo or Eric Clapton, the artists are center stage a moving about as if right in the room. I'd say Classical is the weakest, but only on ocrchestra pieces. It's not that it sounds bad, it's just that I can't imagine and orchestra in my room the same way I can Keb Mo.

Anything from 60's rock to Enigma, Enya, Jazz, country and a bit of classical. My Rig is a Kenwood KA 405 intregrated Amp, KD 500 TT, Kenwood 6 Disk CD player DP-M98 and Marantz Dual Cassett Deck PMD 500, Technics Tuner ST-K50 and an excellent set of Polk M5jrs.

I have a rather small listening area 14X12X8 so it is more than enough for my needs.

One of the reasons my SDA 1C's work so well in my system is because I listen to all types of music. From house/techno, classic rock, folk, female vocal, male vocal, world music, jazz, acoustic piano, rock, electronic.

They are an excellent all purpose speaker. Sure listening to Doug's Maggies made vocal and acoustic music sound spectacular. Rock, electronic, new wave, not so good.

My system is geared towards accurate reroduction, lush midrange, punchy bottom end and very open and "airy" highs. My system doesn't tolerate poor recordings no matter what the material is.

Fusion Jazz, Vocal and acoustic music really shine and the system can "slam" when necessary (think Led Zeppelin DVD).

I have a great balance and synergy right now and I hate to upset it, but I'm going to be changing the amp, pre amp and dac in the near future as well as cables. Trying to move up the ladder w/o breaking the bank or ruining a good thing.

Adcom GFP- 750 - balanced
MIT cables
Ben's silver IC's - unless they don't come in a balanced config

Not nec in that order. I'm trying to get even more resolution & purity and I really like the minimal gain stages in the NP amp and Adcom pre (a Nelson Pass design). I'm looking for very robust simply designed well executed pieces. Trying to eek out even more realism and really make the sound stage "pop" more than it already does..................and boy does it!!!

MM is a big favorite of mine. The SDA's do them justice due to all of the spatial information. The Avantgard horns do an awesome job with them due to both the imaging and the dynamics. I can tell you this, MM with the right imaging will always sound awesome but if its even a little off, it sounds like crap. Actually a good group to use if you are trying to tweak the last little bit out of your system.

Edit: BTW, I tweak the system to whatever I'm into at the time. Right now its still ragtime music but the setup is the same for MM. Go figure...

I didn't build my system around any particular music. I simply focused on getting good speakers that sounded good to my ears with all the different kinds of music I listen to.

Basing your speakers around a particular type of music comes across to me as making it more difficult than it has to be.

Speakers should be able to handle all of it music & movies. If they don't then I wouldn't get them.

One of my set up really excels on soft music and the other for everything else.
I love my 2A3 tubes with a passive pre for super soft music and SS for just about everything else.
I initially made the rig for soft vocals but ended up with more gear so I could also have the best black metal sound. I switch gear depending on mood.

I listen to anything really. Lately it has been Dire Straits,10,000 maniacs,R.E.M. (live stuff),jazz, and Staind-The singles. My gear (NAD 7045,Polk LSi7's) is really not for jammin really loud. I personally favor clarity and detail but do miss the bass with a little larger speaker. Overall though, pretty dang happy.
