That people still send items that are unpaid out to a buyer....not only on this board but on at least 5 other boards I surf there are threads recently about folks pissed because they sent items out before getting paid for them.....I have been buying and selling on the net for over 12 years and have never had a problem and never ship before payment is in my pocket or bank account......heck I even made my brother send me $$$$ for speakers before I sent them to him

Amen, I agree. I ship unpaid to certain people on my list, and never bug them for the cash but I do let them know once in a while they have an outstanding balance. The economy sucks at the moment, every has unexpected expenses come up, **** happens. I never let the total for a single person pass $100, and i never let it happen if I'm in dire need of money, which is rarely but sometimes it happens and I have to have the cash first.
Take payment first, secure it in your bank account, then ship. Otherwise don't publicly complain about not receiving it if that's the way you choose to do business.

i guess i'm greedy then.. i not only get the cash in hand before shipping items to the buyer... and i've usually spent it already. ha ha.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

well at least the exit 5 boy learned a lesson.....ya think???? -
This forum is not to be compared with any other internet forum out there. I usually ship without payment when the transaction is made here. I guess it's a personal choice, and I've never had an issue yet. And, I particularly feel very good about the whole trust thing here._________________________________________________

This forum is just the same as many other forums out there. It's definitely a personal choice when it comes to shipping without payment, as I make that choice quite a few times myself.
As for George learning a lesson, I'm not sure about that. He's been doing the ship without payment thing for a LONG time now, long as i can remember and this is the first issue that I can think of. I'm sure no lesson has been learned and he's going to continue the shipping before cash thing, despite one small bad transaction. His money goes to a good cause, I don't see another issue arising and when Chuck realizes he didn't take out of George's pocket, but the fact he took out of the pocket of a charity, he will come around and get the check out to George. -
NS -- ya gotta learn to trust people, even those you don't know. The buyer trusts that you will ship the item once he pays, so why not trust that the buyer will pay after you ship it?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

There's a difference between trusting people you know and trusting complete strangers, especially over the internet with regards to money. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

stupid is as stupid deserves
trust those I dont know????
LOL now thats a classic........ -
I think that the original poster missed the point that George was making,, and,,,if you have to ask,,no,,,you aren't family. There are some top shelf folks on this board,,Jesse,RT-1,Shack,Double G,,Trietz,Big Lou,,Hoosier,Sal,,to name a few,, listen to what they have to say,,as they have a few years experience,,,,and lastly,,,,.Never poke an old dog with a stick,,,the people that you meet on the way up,,,are the people that you meet on the way down,,,,now,, how about a nice big cup of STFU;)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I've shipped many, many items before receiving a dime, never been burned so I'll continue to do so.If...

Thank you George. That's a valuable life lesson that someone obviously hasn't learned yet.
His own brother? Makes one wonder what kind of values that family was raised with!?!Political Correctness'.........defined

Only lesson I learned here was to go with my gut instincts first time around with the Ignore feature.
-
Even when I had first signed up to be a member, I had already been lurking around here long enough to know that the regular members were a trustworthy bunch.
I sold a few items to a few different people ....shipped the items without payment, just on their reputation and interactions on the forum alone. All 3 of them paid , as I knew they would.
I have also bought items from forum members and sent payment first , knowing the item would make it here...and they did.
Now, one post rule skating wonders ( Or even 25 post wonders ) selling items....HELL NO....you send the goods first ....Or if buying...send the cash first...THATS common sense...you really know nothing about that individual. After 200/300 posts ....even hiding behind a keyboard on the internet...a LOT of their real personality makes it into their posts and you can have a good idea if all is good.
I think the 25 post selling rule should go to 200.....that would solve a LOT of issues with selling/buying on the forum. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
This is all so funny.
I know some people don't like George here but I've met the man and his beautiful family in person. I consider him a friend and I don't see anything wrong with how he chooses to handle his business.
Yes, things happen and sometimes a payment needs to be forgone for a short while to handle other, higher priorities. I don't think anyone here understands that and is more willing to work things out than Mr. Grand. He is a class act. If you can't pay up, COMMUNICATE! Nobody here is gonna go all gestapo on your butt unless you either lie or neglect payment. In fact, I have been able to purchase some high dollar equipment that I really couldn't afford at the time the deal was struck through working out a payment plan that was amicable for both parties. There are several people here that have done that for me and I respect them all and honestly feel that I owe them a favor.
Don't like George, I don't care. Don't like the way he does business, I don't care. He is honestly an example of how I wish everyone here would treat and respect others, we wouldn't have to have a lynching party or look out for each other because it'd be understood. There are quite a few people here I would trust with many things but I think, so far, George and his family would be the only ones I would trust with my own children, if I had any.
So yeah, everybody cool your jets. George has been here for a loooong time and I really doubt he is going anywhere.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

This all comes down to keeping your word & commitments. If you can't do it, don't buy it. If you can't/won't communicate promptly & effectively with the person you are doing business with to avoid being called out like this, then you deserve whatever you get!

I'm sorry to read about this, George. I'm also particularly surprised and disappointed by the buyer, because I just had a positive transaction (sale) with him less than one month ago. Something has clearly come up, but I hope he squares it with you very soon.
There have been a few other cases where individuals, working within the CP flea market, have reneged on their word over the past 6 weeks or so. (I think we all know who I'm referring to). With that in mind, the following passage that I came across while reading Confucius's (579-490 B.C) The Analects last nightstruck a particular chord:
The Master said, "I do not see what use a man can be put to, whose word cannot be trusted. How can a waggon be made to go if it has no yoke-bar or a carriage, if it has no collar-bar?"
I think the Master pretty much nailed it 2,500 years ago.
But I also want to echo some of the comments above about a private transaction being a reciprocal action. I think most of us have been in the position of both buyer and seller. Some require payment first....and thats fine. But in that situation, the buyer is also expected to extend full trust in the word of the seller that they will ship.
Anyway, I hope the funds are forthcoming soon.2 Ch.
