any danger in biamping LSi25's....

I have been testing my speakers for days now and I dont think I am getting what I should out of these 25's. I would like to try one last option before I give up on them: Biamping.

I have this 7 channel amp sitting here, and only 5 channels being used. Thats a terrible shame. Last time I spoke with polk, they made it sound like a bad idea. They told me that I was probably overpowering my center and rears already. My amp is a B&K 7270 Series II, 200wpc and 8 ohms, 375 at 4.

I plan on purchasing two Y adapters and hooking up channels 1 and 2 on the amp to the left speaker, and 3 and 4 to the right. That would give each speaker a total of 750 watts of power (if I am correct in my Y adapter approach to biamping). The Lsi's are rated at 300. Everyone says that the Lsi's are a power hungry speaker, I just don't want to push my luck and damage something.

Does anyone see any harm in connecting the LSi's in such a way?

You are the master of the volume control. Does your amp have level controls?

The LSi25's are already biamp'd- the subwoofer inside each speaker is already self-powered. There's no point at all to feeding the lower terminals with it's own amp. To bi-amp a LSi25, you'd have to open up the speaker and modify the internal passive crossover.

Yeah Sell the Lsi25s and get Lsi15s.

alright, so as I understand the top binding posts are for the mids and tweeters, and the bottom is for the sub.

SO on the lsi15's it is different? am I right in assuming that usually speakers are setup so that the top binding posts are tweeters and the bottom are mids? If that is the case, is this the way the 15's are set up?

Now, call me stupid if you have to, but can I just run two sets of wire from my amp on channel 1 and 2 to the top binding posts of the speakers?

The way that I have my speakers bi-amped is

The y adapter now splits the pre out signal into 2 signals (this means that 6 channels of the amp are being used.

so each of my speaker inputs are getting 2 channels of power from the amp for each input(L/R/C), 1 for the upper (high freq) and 1 for the lows (low freq)

I think that running two speaker wires from the same terminals on the amp is bi-wired. That is not an up grade for me. The jumpers on your speaker are there so that you don't have to do this.

hmmm... Im wondering if I should buy a set of 15's or just go with something that isnt polk

I had the RT2000i which I think was the grand dad of the 25. I had many of the same issues you are having now. The LSI series was just staring to hit the market at that time and were very hard to find, let alone listen to.

So faced with that difficulty, and a desire to upgrade, I looked at other brands. While it is possible for you to hear all the Polk lines now, there are other brands out there that may serve you better. Go visit other dealers and listen to what's out there. Tastes and preferences change over time and in some cases frequently! There is a speaker out here that will meet your needs......for awhile at least until the upgrade bug bites again.

The bang for the buck we get from Polk I think is untouchable. Mt RT2000i and an enourmous center I think was a CS1000 is now doing doing duty in my daughters HT. My Rt55i are in my garage rig. My RT34 are with my son in a small apartment. Speaker brand loyalty for some people is like the Chevy/Ford/Dodge debate! I've only owned three brands. Polk, Paradigm and Martin Logan. Not including the stuff I bought overseas many years ago. All three have brought terrific enjoyment.
