I've never heard of the surrounds on these wearing out. There's folks with original early 80's drivers that are still just fine. The surrounds on my '85 vintage SDA's are still as good as new.

Have you actually contacted Polk CS about a replacement driver? Last I heard (last year sometime) they were out of stock, but expecting more to come in. It's possible that they discontinued them, though, as they weren't used much. Still, they should be able to recommend a suitable replacement that they are still making....
    Ludicrous gibs!

I've seen butyl rubber surrounds fail on plenty of speakers. Why I don't know. Maybe they're placed in direct sunlight or something. In any event, butyl rubber surrounds can be replaced just as easily as foam surrounds.

I've got a pair. Daily drivers in the bedroom 'zone' off the whole house system. They were the first Polk I got lustfull over. Couldn't afford a pair at retail, years later, Big Dumb Troy GAVE me his pair. I have them. YOU can't have them.

My favorite Polk bookend for sure.

i talk to kele at polk subport and he said the RT-7 are discontinued, they dont make the drivers no more there none in stock.
i dont know if the surrounds are bad they feel real thin and are changing color they fell like they are ready to crack, but dose not show any, i have use them a lot, they sill sound very good. i post them in the speaker part of the forum, to see what would be a good replacement. if they do go .

    thanks,
