Magnepan MMG Loudspeaker - Black/Oak - 9/10 - *SOLD* to Ricardo
I have a pair of MMG's with about 20-30 hours on them and they're like they came out of the box. This is the NEW frame style with the wood trim as opposed to the exposed diaphragm rail. If you've ever waffled on planars, this ends the excuses.
While I've never been a fan of the smaller Magnepan speakers, beings I've owned just about everything aside from the MG20.1, these will offer the tonality and response that planars are famous for. If you don't like these, then planars are probably not your thing.
Magnepan offers these brand new @ $599 with a 60 day money back guarantee and for some reason that even scares folks. You're off your rocker if you haven't listened/owned to these at some point in your travels. $599?!...let alone $425?
No, they are not bass monsters....that's a side effect AND they are inefficient, so you need some power behind them. I'm a huge planar fan and the vocal, acoustic and instrument level reproduction and soundstage is second to none.
I've been chasing speakers around for 4 years, just to get some brain salad, but planar is where its at for me. My 3.6 order is in and I'm gonna chill out on speakers for awhile. So should you.....
Specifications:
Description 2-Way / Quasi-Ribbon Planar-Magnetic
Freq. Resp. 50 - 24 kHz ±3 dB
Rec Power Read Frequently Asked Questions
Sensitivity 86dB / 500Hz / 2.83v
Impedance 4 Ohm
Dimensions 14.5 x 48 x 1.25
Available in natural or black solid oak trim with off-white, grey or black fabric.
Includes: Original everything.
Thanks for reading! I'll have some pictures later since they are boxed up.
I'd rather do local if at all possible and if you want these for the trip home from Polkfest, we can do that as well.

These speakers are the reason why I will buy the big boys some day . . . once I get a real home with space. They are amazing. Arguably the best you could buy for the money. If you like acoustic tracks, then you can't do much better. Good luck Mark.
Do you have these on A'gon? They will be gone in seconds at this price. -
Mark - nice choice on the 3.6's  Maggie 3.6's driven by Parasound Halo JC-1's is one of my audio dream systems.
This is a no-brainer folks! You can play with these for a year, and pretty much recover your investment if they ain't for you.

Mike/Doug - Thanks for the kind words. It's not like either of you're roughing it
Mike - I have a less than ideal space and have never had an issue with this style of loudspeaker. The Emerald's you own aren't space savers either. I never said I was in a tight space . And, I would love to have the MG 20s, but thought my 16W X 20L X 16H was too small. Is that not true?
You are right however, that tweaking a speaker to make it sound right in your space is good fun. -
The pair of Maggie 3.6's I've listened to the most are in a room that is probably 16x20 with an 8 ft ceiling. Not a lot of room treatment, carpet on the floor, quilt hanging dead center behind the speakers, and driven by a Conrad Johnson PV10 pre and Rogue M-150 amps. It's a sit back and enjoy type of deal!DKG999

Mark, were you using a subwoofer with these Maggies to augment the lack of bass?Carl
-
Mike - No. You think too much.
Carl - I didn't with the MMG's but did with my 3.5R's. They all have bass but it's different and not like what most people are used to with a monkey coffin. I was seriously thinking about these but I doubt they'd fit in the carry-on on the plane. Now that Ricardo has them they are a lot closer when he move's on..............and he will."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. I've always wondered how a dual music/HT front end with 3.6's, MMG's mounted horizontally above and below the TV screen as the center channel, and one of the better subs such as a REL B2 would sound?DKG999

I don't see why it wouldn't work but you would probably have problems getting the image to settle. Plus, you would have to create identical space above and below, or one speaker may become dominant and it could get weirder.
It might be a bit too big....if that makes any sense. The MMGC is probably the best solution in the end.
Hell, just thinking aloud....it might be awesome and not do any of those thingsCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Black Fabric/Oak Trim. I usually pick Black based on my rig and just didn't think about it until I unboxed them.
It's my mistake Ricardo, 100%. If it affects the outcome, talk to me me baby. If it gets too scary for you amigo, somebody else will take them off your hands I'm sure.
Wildly worth the dollars. -
I am a bit scared......that my other speakers won't get too much listening time.
Love the sound; reminds me of the Carver ribbons. Perfect for 80% of the music I like. Still can't make them disappear though. I must be doing something wrong, but I'll get there._________________________________________________

Damn, I forgot to smash the window on your rental Friday night and grab them. Why do think when I helped you load them I wanted you to put them in the back seat vs the trunk?
