Someone posted an on-line calculator which allowed you to input the room dimensions and it tells you where to place the stereo speakers. I forget the name of the method and can't find the post. Anyone remember?

Has anybody ever ran across a calculator that takes into consideration a vaulted ceiling? I have yet to run across one.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

This might help, it mentions placing your speakers at the larger side of the room: http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=insights&content_id=36&pagestring=Room+Setup+10"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Is there something like this for a multi-channel setup?

I tried placement of the horns using the calculator. It sounded OK is about all I can say. I was hoping for something glorious. Oh well, on the website it does say something about this being all you need to know about rectangular rooms and box speakers.Vinyl, the final frontier...

How big a room? I thought it sounded just ok too, liked the sound better before I used the calculator...seemed like the speakersd were too far into the room -

I used this formula in my rectangular room when it was basically empty and it sounded fantastic. Once the new den furniture arrived, I couldn't get the magic back.
A few days later I went to pick up my new amps and the guy I bought them from is a hard core audiophile. He had a huge, acoustically damped room with only a single chair in the middle of the floor and a pair of DIY speakers. It was, by far, the best sounding system I ever heard. That's when I realized how much the room plays a role in the sound.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

The open area is 21w x 32d.
What it sounded like to me was that with the speakers in the suggested position the room disappeared completely. I guess this could be ok but I think the room can add something good. How non-audiophile of me.Vinyl, the final frontier...
