Opinions on Pioneer VSX-90TXV?

Looks like a killer deal at Vanns for the Pioneer VSX-90TXV AVR. I realize it doesn't have the latest decoders, but I plan to use it for a simple setup in my basement mainly for the speakers in the pool area. I will likely be adding a couple more speakers to the pool area as well and the zones would come in handy for that. Plus when we have a party, some kids like to play the consoles, and right now my system is Speaker A/B only.
I expect teh kids will probably watch some movies on it, we'll use the HT setup for real watching.

Basically trying to figure out if I should jump on this for $300 or would my money be better spent elsewhere?

Is it a decent AVR for the monet

Thanks

If you have a reciever like this, and say an HD-DVD player, would it matter that the AVR doesn't decode the new formats? Would the HD-DVD player handle that for you??
Just trying to see if the lack of decoding capability for the newer formats (Dolby TrueHD, etc) is a showstopper.

Can't offer much info but it looks like it's an more recent version of my trusty Elite VSX54TX which has been extremely reliable and is also rated at 110 wpc. After switching to seperates I have a new respect for that receiver. The only thing is mine runs pretty warm so you need at least 8" or 9" above for airflow.

No it should not be a showstopper. The only issue becomes when the player does not decode the format(s), or if the receiver does not have the required inputs, or if you want the simplicity of a single cable (HDMI). Optical and/or coax cannot handle the combined bandwidth of the new lossless formats so it's either HDMI or multi-channel output cables. The Pioneer sounds like a great deal to me.

If I went that route I would likely go for another Onk 805-about $529 at ecost. I got my current one there and was Like New ++.

Which model HK would you be thinking of?

For $300.00 new it's a steal. Run don't walk you'll be very pleased. I love my VSX-52TXi which is an older sibling without HDMI and IPOD capability. My two cents.

I hope it's a good unit, I ordered one this morning. $299.88 free shipping, no sales tax can't beat that with a stick. Now I have to wait on FedEx Ground, please hurry 'Summer Claus'. Next project find another pair on Monitor 5JR+ to go from 5.1 to 7.1 after that build a computer based audio server, after that pour a glass of wine or a cold beer and enjoy.
