EQ works with Radio but NOT DVD/CD

Ok guys, I'm a first timer at this so I appreciate your patience and I know this is a POLK speaker site, which I have a ton of but I have a sound system question for you guys, I have a:

Yamaha DSP-A1 Processor
Yamaha EQ630 Equalizer
Yamaha TX 492 Tuner
Denon 2900 DVD Player

Ok here's my question for all the experts, when I play the radio the EQ works perfectly, I have it going into the Tape Monitor 2 inputs on the processor, I can totally hear the effects of the EQ. Hoever, when I play a CD or DVD on the Denon player I get sound only when the input on the processor is set to AUTO: PCM, as soon as I hit the Tape Monitor button to get the EQ effects the sound goes out.

Also the level metes on the EQ don't go on either, almost as if it's not getting a signal from the Denon player. The Denon player is connected to the processor via a Fiber Optic Cable ( not sure if that maters or not ) and not going through the EQ.

I thought by putting the EQ into Tape 2, when ever that is turned on, any sound input will have the EQ effect, but it seems as though I'm missing something here.

Sorry for the long winded question

Yamaha DSP-A1
Denon 2900
Yamaha TX 492
Yamaha EQ 630
Monster Power HKS II 3600
Polk CS350
Polk RM1200
Polk PSW125
And hopefully some RTA 15 or 12's if I can find a set ;)

The EQ is connected to the analog tape input/outputs and the Denon is sending the digital data stream directly to the decoder in the unit. I'm not completely familiar with your unit, but there might be a setting to change the recording source. On my Denon I had to change it to record from the current source. Mine defaulted to Tuner and I couldn't record anything else until I change it to current source.

Thanks guys for the quick responce, I took the Fiber Optic cable off and hooked up analog outputs from the Denon unit to the analog input on the DSP and it works perfect, engaged the Tape Monitor and sounds great.

I guess my setting are mixed up some where, I'm working on it now.

    Take Care :)

Aftet giving this more thought, I doubt there's a way to use the EQ with the source connected via toslink. Optical is a direct digital signal whereas the EQ is strictly analog.

I think you might have it. The unit might send an analog signal to the recording side of the tape input once the setting is done correctly, but I doubt it will send it back out for monitoring (as would be needed for the EQ). Now in the analog domain, it would send it back out for monitoring and all would be well.

Well after messing around with this last night for several hours, I figured that the DVD cannot go through the processor and have the EQ working at the same time ( with Fiber Optic ), if you hook up via analog no problem. My goal was to eliminate the crappy CD player I have ( old school SONY, yuck ! ) and use my DVD for both purposes.

With that said, I've decided to put my CD player back in the loop, everything runs through the EQ except the DVD player and all works well.

Thanks again for the help, you guys have been great !!

The system works great, I ended up hooking my "ok" CD player back in the syetem, when it or the radio is playing the EQ works as it should. I no longer am using the DVD player for the CD so it's hooked back up Fiber Optically and sounds great.

Thanks again for all your help guys.

    Regards

P.S. I'm now on the hunt for a quality CD player, any recommendations out there.
