A sad day for Dave Matthews Band fans

I'm originally from Virginia and was just entering college when the DMB exploded on the local scene in Virginia (Harrisonburg and Charlottesville) in the early 1990s. I remember going to see the band play every Wednesday night at the Flood Zone in Richmond for $5. You could walk right up to the stage and touch his leg, thats how small the place was. This was around '92 - 93 when they were growing a small but extremely loyal fan base. Then Remember Two Things was released at the end of '93 and the band just got bigger and bigger. But still many great summer concerts to be seen in the mid 1990s.

Well, that was definately an extremely fun era. So I was sad to learn that the saxophonist Leroi Moore died today. Though Dave was no doubt the leader and star, it was the synergy of the band that made them a great live show to catch back in the 1990s (last time I saw them was 98). A sad day...its been rough few weeks.

Yeah, I hope so. The crazy thing is that he passed away here in L.A. (in Hollywood to be precise). And the band was here, or actually is here, playing a concert at the Staples Center in downtown L.A. The saxophonist from Bela Fleck has been filling in for Moore ever since June, when the latter had an ATV accident on his farm in Charlottesville, VA. They decided to still carry on with the show tonight and are probably still playing right now. I agree with you, Mike; I hope that they stay together and continue to make great music.

I just saw these guys last Saturday here in Dallas, fantastic!

I imagine this will be hardest on Carter, as they were good friends long before Dave ever came o n the scene.

Terrible news. Leroi was one of the coolest cats. He will be missed. Not sure if the DMB will be quite the same without him.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Sad indeed. I sold him a bunch of cigars, lighters, etc at the shop I used to work part time at (in Cville) a year or so ago. One of the nicest customers I ever dealt with there, and had time to talk music, sports, the whole 9 yards. I (jokingly) asked him if he minded if I kept his credit card receipt as an autograph, and he laughed and said as long as it didn't show up on his statement he was fine with it. Very cool guy.

Very sad to see someone that talented (and nice) pass too soon...

RIP. Great loss. I read the article about him on MSN. I didn't know he was classical music trained.
